New ATi R600 Details Appear

"AMD remains secretive about their R600.VR-Zone managed to dig out a little more information. We can expect to see R600, RV610 and RV630 demos at CeBIT but no performance tests to be revealed there. The R600 launch is slated for end of March it appears now and there are 3 SKUs; XTX, XT and XL. ATI briefly mentioned to their partners a 2nd generation Unified Shader Structure and a new hardware Crossfire for R600 family which can be bridgeless yet faster. We are not sure how does this new HW CF work out yet. The retail card is half an inch longer at 9.5" and the OEM/SI version remains the same at 12". It comes with 512-bit memory bus and 1GB DDR4 at more than 2GHz frequency. Core clock remains a mystery at this stage."

I'd say this would likely make a great candidate for SH4. ;)

@Gizzmoe: Didn't notice the text issue, sorry. When I cut/paste the snippet, it was black and unreadble. That'll teach me for posting so late when I should be asleep instead.

That would make a nice card for any game, but I think it will debut at the $500 to $600 range ...

These new cards seem to be double thick too and causes problems fitting in older boards.

Hope ati continues with it's driver update support ... now that it is AMD controlled

I'm sure the XTX flavour will be within the same range as a 8800GTX. Insofar as the driver support under AMD is concerned, I'm sure it'll remain status quo. Today, ATI's drivers are well optimized and hopefully will continue to remain so.

I am still worried that I will need a vacuum leaner in my system to remove the 250 Watts of heat it is expected to generate!!!
