Yet another bearing overlay tool

Hi all, finally after a lot of help from Dertiens private tutoring I sought the tools I would use to aid in manual TDC. I liked Patos' bearing tool but was rather "crowded" with range scales that were not correct, so I removed all the range scales, and inner bearing circle, then made the overall viewed size greater, the result is a tool that I like without the problem of trying to find your own plotting marks!:D

Many thanks to Danlisa for his guidance with Photo Shop,:yep: also to Pato for the adaption of his bearing tool, I did try to locate him, but couldn't!
I recomend Dertiens "Precise Range Ruler" (PRR Mod) as the ruler has 100 meter marks. See here:

During game play, once knowing the range & bearing, all you have to do is: draw a line to correct Range through the correct bearing - Done!:up:

Download:

Readme supplied & JSGME ready.
Cheers.

Note: I must stress that this is an adaption of Patos Bearing Mod.

Thx Reece :up: Just d\l your mod . Not wanting to go ot but since this topic is about map tools . Do's anyone know how to get rid of marker with colored water depth marks? I hate haveing to hit ? to use plain pencil then again to use ruler. I hope I explained my problem right and someone can show me how to fix or change it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Nice uncluttered view. Thanks:up:

@FIREWALL
I dont know if you are using JSGME or which mods, but the Pencil is located in
SHIII/data/Menu/MouseCurs/Pencil.TGA

Reece,

Just a small error......

Just be aware if you cut & paste the file names in the readme file, ensure you don't use the
.tga part of the file name as below;
NSS_Uboat21_shp
.tga

If you cut & paste the full file path as above it will not replace the file but make a second file in each of the folders.

This is what it should look like if you are going to use this method;
NSS_Uboat21_shp

It's not a big issue Reece, but I thought I would just let members know. Other wise this is a outstanding addition to the nav compartment of the game.
:rock:

Reece 02-07-07 04:12 AM

Ahh, a boo boo, should be copy & paste::oops: Doesn't seem to matter how many times you read these things you still end up with errors, although I'm not sure if this is what you mean Venatore?
If I highlight "NSS_Uboat21_shp.tga" from the readme - copy it (^C) then highlight the file "NSS_Uboat_shp.tga", paste over the file (^V) the result would be a file named "NSS_Uboat21_shp.tga", this is correct.:yep:
Crossed wires I think.

Venatore 02-07-07 04:21 AM

Yep your totally correct in what your saying Reece, I needed to be more detailed in my post, I made copies and cut and pasted the file name onto the new file, then dragged it across to wait for the pop up do you want to over write the file etc etc. SO if members use that method. I hate it when you write your thoughts but it still doesn't come out the way you wanted it to :damn:

Reece 02-07-07 04:51 AM

Nothing to worry about Venatore! I'm always making blunders & often what I say isn't what I mean! ...... Where only Human, although when I look in the mirror I often wonder!:rotfl:

Hey Reece, i'm going to down load this and try it out. Half the fun of SH3 for me is the art of plotting. So thanks.

hans.

Looks great Reese. :up:

One question... Does this correct the heading offset when traveling east? The other dial with ranges was off by a few degrees. Not a big deal I know but it just didn't look right and tended to throw you a curveball when viewing it... if you see what I mean. ;)

Anyways, this is now a nice uncluttered dial. :D

Great Job Guv !

Reece 02-07-07 08:53 PM

Hi all & thanks, GT182, I think this problem is with Jases overlay tool as well, please correct me if I'm wrong, but yes the same problem may exist! since I have actually changed the size it may not be quite so pronounced, then again it may be worse,:-? let me know please, including details, as I may be able to skew the protractor readings to read correctly.:D In the meantime I will scan in a new 360 degree protractor & overly that to check if the readout is correct or not.

GT182 02-07-07 09:49 PM

Thanks Reece for the info an answers. :up:

I'll get it in asap to check it out. I'm still at sea but will back in base soon. Hopefully before this weekend I can take a look at it. Cheers.

Reece 02-07-07 11:59 PM

Yes it was way out

Hi GT, I checked it out on a grid & it was way out, it took quite a while to rotate and move the image, but it is now realigned, & accurate. :up:
The file is now ready but I have to leave on a trip to the big smoke, so I can't upload till tomorrow, sorry about that chief!:cry: But atleast it's fixed, by the way, if your wondering, I had to rotate the whole thing by half a degree anticlockwise then shift to center the whole thing!;)
Cheers.

GT182 02-08-07 07:41 AM

Great news Reece on the fix. :up: No worries on not getting it uploaded yet. Just seeing it fixed will make everyone happy. Thanks mate. ~S!~

And I foresee a new Kaptain of the Month. :D
