didnt get credit for sinking revenge BB

So I snuk into scapa in october of 1939 and sind an aux cruiser and a revenge BB, but it didnt give me credit for the revenge. I sent 3 fish into her and it took about an hour for her to sink, I waited to confirm that she sunk and then left scapa, got back to base and noticed my tonnage was about 20K to low. Anyidea why i didnt get credit for sinking the BB

Did it actually sink? Perhaps the water was very shallow and she rested on the sea floor thus, in the game's mind, not sinking.

I've had this happen to an Ocean liner I attacked in a harbour before.

As far as I know, Gunther Prien was the only one to attempt and successfully pull off a harbor raid. Infiltrating harbors was, as a rule, suicide. Since I am an uber-realism geek, I don't do it in SH3 either. :smug:

And zocho: Apparently everyone else thought his emblem was the coolest, too. They adopted Prien's "Snorting Bull" as the 7th Flotilla emblem.

I've heard there were some more heroes that didn't manage to stay alive nor to sink anything significant. The "ports raiding sport" stopped after Doenitz order that prohibited this kind of tourism.

it showed a sunk icon on my map, And I usually dont go into ports either but i was reading the scapa flow thread on this board so i figured what the heck

don't blame you now go hit Loch Ewe,NY,Dunkirk and the rest the worst thing that can happen to you is you die it's not all that hard in the game and you might be suprised on what you can find.

Early in the war you can get away with many harbour raids as long as you are patient, quiet and pick a harbour that is not enclosed in narrow bay. In Hartlepool you can always score C2s and tankers. The only problem is that those darn T2s just wont sink...:damn: (not the best targets for TypII boats).

Anyway, you can even survive Dover (for a while at least) long enough to score the early C2s. Hartlepool and Portland are my favorites regarding routes in and out of.

Sinking T2's with fewer eels

I also have had difficulty sinking tankers in port in my IID with one eel. I have had the best luck as follows. Firing one eel at 10 m (1/2 m below keel) under the aft edge of the forward superstructure (forward of midships) breaks the back 30% of the time. The 1/2 m is important b/c with 1 m below keel depth, the back doesn't break as often (I didn't finish the calculation once I saw the probability was less than 30%:know:). If the back doesn't break, a second eel set to impact hitting the engine room increases the probability of sinking by 30% (60% probability with 2 eels).

I was hoping a single eel on impact to the engine room would be sufficient in deeper water, and I am in the middle of attacking a convoy just departing Southend. Even in deep water , one eel to the engine room with impact pistol complete with secondary explosions still didn't sink a T2. It was dead in the water and I finished it with a second fish (no deck gun on my IID) at 10 m and magnetic pistol under the forward half of the forward superstructure.

Have you been able to improve your efficiency in sinking T2's? I don't know how much GWX, convoy mods, or ship model mods may be affecting the results. I'm using 1.4b patched vanilla right now before switching to GWX so I can appreciate the difference.

Any additional information to improve my efficiency before I graduate into a VIIC would be helpful. Please include torp depth, location of detonation (as accurately as possible, but tough to see when evading escorts), and mods. :know:

Did you get the 'She's going down' message. If not, it's not sunk.

This is a good rule for all those claiming not to get credit for sinkings. You must get this message.;)

I don't think the message is that necessary!.. i did get credit for bout 3 ships, if i remember correctly, for which there was no message saying 'She's going down'!.. If i need conformation for the kill, i switch to the captain's log to verify that the ship has actually been sunk!..
