Is this right? GWX question

Hello,

I finally decided to give GWX a go since I had to wipe my hard drive recently (lost
my one and only career, it will be missed).
I must say I'm impressed

I decided to join the 2nd flotilla in 1940 since I hadn't gotten into a type IX yet and
wanted to be on the west coast of France. (previous career was a Type VII B out of Kiel). But I ended up in a Type II D based in Kiel. I thought I would be in a IX or maybe a VII out of Lorient?

I must say, I kind of like the II D except for the small loadout of fish. But I really
did not want to be sailing from Kiel again (especially in a II D, long trips). So is this
right, or did something go wrong?

Also, I received a radio message from another Uboot that he had attacked a
convoy in a certain sector, and that the only escort for the convoy was sunk.
It was wide open for attack. I thought this might just be for flavor, but about
twelve hours or so later a convoy contact appeared on the map that looked
to be heading from that location. I intercepted and sank a large tanker, but I
believe it had escort. I escaped easily enough (rough sea, heavy fog and rain)
but was wondering if the message I received was real, and maybe a new
escort joined up with the convoy?

Thanks for any help

Patiently waiting for silent hunter 4....

Welcome aboard kaleun rocco :arrgh!:

Get SH3Commander v 2.7 and tha associated Commander files (available from my sig if you have any trouble) and you can tweak your career ie: date, flotilla, boat etc at the outset :yep:
Radio messages are generally 'eye candy'....unlike 'contact reports' which aren't

Ah, ok. thank you.

But I'm left wondering if something is wrong with my GWX install. I think
I should have started in Lorient, no? The type II D boat doesn't bother me,
but I'm left wondering if I'll ever get to lorient?

Thanks for the welcome, subsim has always seemed like a friendly place so
I finally decided to register

Lorient wasn't available at the beginning of the war.

I started the career in 1940 though...September or October, can't remember which.

You should be able to click no the date in the career screen. Once done you should see what bases available. I have started Lorient in 1940. Pretty sure anyway.

OK, thanks, I must have breezed by the available bases thing

Thanks

I just started a new career in Lorient. GWX makes it easy to pick the base. You can also ask for a transfer when you return from your present patrol. Click on the phone at the office.

Good hunting!
