Where are the clouds?
I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find an answer to my specific situation, so please forgive this hapless n00b...
I am playing a fresh installation of SH3, with the 1.4b patch and RUB 1.45. No other mods, ever. I'm in Campaign mode. And there are no clouds. Initially I thought there was no weather whatsoever, but eventually I got rough seas and heavy rain- out of a clear blue sky. Always clear; never clouds, never overcast... Apart from this irritating detail, everything looks good. Oh, and there ARE clouds in Single Missions... Any clues? I want to have an immersive experience but realism issues like this one kinda kill the immersion factor. |
Hi matey, and welcome to Subsim!:up: This sounds strange, since you have clouds in Single missions... Could be something in the Campaign layers, though.. Im sure someone will come along and assist you better, herr Kaleun! :yep:

I had the same thing in GW-1a with SHIII-C in campaigns. When I moved to GWX, the clouds were there as they should be. Clear starry sky's and rain was always rather odd. Never was sure if it was a software issue or my system. But the same hardware was used for both versions. I never played the stock version, so I didn't know the same issue arose in that too.

I've read so many posts about people complaining about lousy weather, it's a change seeing somebody complain for always having clear skies...:D

Welcome aboard kaleun crosshair :arrgh!:
Normally I would answer to your question "in the sky" Have a look here for one of the weather mods: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=78792 If that doesn't work then perhaps you have a problem with your installation and may need to consider installing it again  |
Clouds
About a year ago there were many threads concerning lack of clouds. Since GWX, this has disappeared. I suggest you install GWX, SH3CMDR 2.7, SH3 Weather 1.05, and SH3 Gen (v.?). This will give you a current install and take care of your problem
|
Allright, that certainly gives me something to work with.
Many thanks for your helpful responses! I'll try them and report on the results, when I can find a few moments of free time. |
I've now done all that good stuff- running GWX, sh3cmdr 2.7, sh3weather 1.5, and sh3gen 0.7. And the appearence and gameplay is vastly improved, in many ways.
And yet one nagging problem remains... There are still no clouds, ever. This is the case now in the single missions as well as in campaigns. Rain, rough seas, fog etc are all there but the sky is always perfectly blue with a big bright sun and the nights are always starry. Frame rates are good, detail is great, models look right, nothing seems to indcate a video card issue. The clouds just aren't there, even when it rains. Surely I'm not the only person having this problem... |
Hi again,mate...I have one suggestion for you:
Uninstall everything (all files, also the SH3 folder in "my documents"), then try to run stock SHIIII. See if the clouds are there. If they are, there is a mod problem. Then add the patch, and see if they are there. Continue that way, to figure out where the bug is. Its the only way to figure this out, matey.. |
The whole operation should take a little over an hour but the potential rewards are well worth the effort

On vanilla SH3, the clouds worked, to my delight. Patched to 1.4b, and the clouds are still there. Next, I installed GWX. No clouds. Added the Dec.23 patch and it didn't fix my clouds. So the problem seems to lie in GWX. I'm going to try re-downloading GWX to make sure no files were corrupted. That will take a while, so if anyone has any ideas in the interim, I'll try anything! |
Delete any/all SH3 files from C\MyDocuments Install a clean version of SH3 in C\Program Files\Ubisoft\SH3 Patch it to 1.4b Copy the folder and paste it to whatever drive you want. Rename the folder ‘GWX’. Now install GWX and run it. (not forgetting the Dec23rd patch-installed via JSGME)) Create a shortcut to the desktop.. Install the SH3Cmd 2.7 plus the SH3Cfg file If your going to use multiple installs I’d suggest a separate install of SH3Cmdr for each plus an install of MultiSH3. Good luck  |
If you do multiple installations for SH3/GWX make sure you read this thread http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...e+installation
