Why no 1945 start?
I just read Subsim's 'first look' at SH4. Can anyone tell me why they're once again restricting campaign starts? There's no reason why a campaign couldn't start in 1945. We had to wait months for a mod to allow us to do it in SH3 - I can't believe we're gonna have to do the same thing in SH4.

Historically there were very few ships left to sink in '45, unless you like machine-gunning junks and sampans. Still, I understand your concern. Eh, I'm not overly concerned. Our modders will fix this game just like they did with SH3....

I have this funny feeling there'll be far less to fix in SH4:p.

Modding a 1945 start will be much, much easier than in SH3. Like 5 mins work.

I also have a funny feeling there's going to be a lot less to "fix" on SH4 than SH3.

If this sim is as historical as I think/hope it will be, starting in 45 would probably consist of gunning sampans, charting minefields with FM Sonar, lifeguarding and--very occasionally--happening on something worthy of a torpedo. Also a lot of shallow water stuff. Many of the subs that started in 45 didn't sink anything simply because there was so little left to sink.
Just my 2 cents... |

A good number of the Tench class subs slated to be constructed in 1945 were cancelled. Guess even then they saw too few worthy targets left for the existing submarine fleet to continue building and launching more.

I think that the above replies have already answered the question... But to make it historical accurate, a 1945 start is necessary...
modders will do their job... No worry But year 1945 won't be great fun... no more mechants travel from Phillipines to Japan... But there are reinforcements from Japan to Iwo Jima, Okiawa. There is also Operation Ten-Go, the journey of Yamato to the eternity. Probably there will be pilot rescuring mission (bombers => firebomb Japan) Tons of sucidal boats / kamikaze planes to deal with Spying Japanese bases missions Mining Japanese waters (if there is mining function included) |
