New career - any way to include existong crew from another one?
As in the topic: how to include the crew from anoter career in a completely new one? Any way? I'd like to keep their names (and set all of them: 0 patrols, no medals etc.). Any help appreciated.

Not that I'm aware of :nope: ....but here's hoping :up:

I thought maytbe a kind of template... We have such templates allready - there is a possibility to pick one in SH3, but I have no idea, how to make one and where they are stored.
It drives me mad you can set (for example change names) your crew only _after_ completing your first patrol. |
Yes there is! Did it last night.:know:
This will work if you tranfer the crew to the same type of boat as you had before. i.e IXB to IXB. The first thing to do is load up you new career and load a patrol. Then, before leaving dock just exit and dock at...wherever. Exit SH3. Roll back SH3Cmdr. In the My Documents folder where your career saves are the will be (IIRC) crew cfg files. These basically keep track of your medals & training for your crew. Find the last one for your old career and copy it your new career. After you have copied it into your new career rename it to the same as the last one in your new career. Is that clear?:88) From memory again so file names won't be exact, but close. This is something I wanted to ask JScones to include in Cmdr. Crew Transfers:hmm: |
Thanks, Dan, I'll give it a try. But what i dislike in this method is wasting 1 patrol in my career. I really don't want to start with retreating before even leaving the port... What would Papa say? :)

You should always conduct a 'shakedown' patrol, who say's how long it must be.
Besides, this is a workaround for the BUG where, if you update your crew/boat on your first patrol then you get no renown. |
This is from the SH3CMDR helpfile: Ability to import user defined crew configurations for using with new careers and missions, or use the included "Realistic" model, based on actual U-boat crew composition of WWII;
To import your own crew configurations, simply add your crew configuration files into a descriptively named sub-folder under the SH3 Commander\Crew folder. For example, to add the real crew of U-97, create the following structure: SH3 Commander\Crew\U-97\data\Cfg and then add the appropriate crew_config_*.cfg files. U-97 will then appear as an option in the "Use Crew" list box. If you copy Crew_Career_xx.cfg from \My documents\SH3\data\cfg\Careers\name of campaign folder to SH3 Commander \Crew\xxx\data\Cfg folder and rename it to crew_config_VII_1.cfg, would that work, or do you need the _VII_2.cfg and _VII_3.cfg files as well? |

Funny that I would be the smartass that reads the manual, I´m more like "fella´s don´t need any stinking instructions" otherwise:lol:
Still, what are the appropriate files? |

But the OP asked "(and set all of them: 0 patrols, no medals etc.)". That has to be done manually. But done once and added as a unique crew to SH3Cmdr, it need never be done again. ;) |
Thank you JScones:up:

Thank you both, Lzs von swe and JScones. It worked well, now I've got my new career and the new crew, all fit my taste (and give me fried eggs in the morning with three cups of coffee). :sunny:

If anyone's interested, I can send a crew file prepared by me for a IXB type of boat. Characteristics are:
- based on "realistic" template with very few changes with randomized experience, - every officer has now one speciality and the watchman is also a DeckGunner (so no officers without any speciality and no officers with three of them), - two petty officers dismissed as there were no free slots for them, - all of them have randomized names (with SH3 Commander randomization mechanism), but I chose to give them... surnames that are or just sound Polish (and amazingly there were very many of them to pick among all these German surnames). So the crew is now full of "the bloody -skiis", as my English friend used to call Poles). I just like it that way. :) |
