Not really SHIII, more of a 'I wish' thing

I was just picturing an idea for multiplayer, set in the SHIII genre.

Instead of a single player in control of an entire U-boat, I was wondering what it would be like if it took several players to command a U-boat on patrol. One in command, another as navigator, another as weapons officer, another as engineer, etc. For instance, during a torpedo attack the commanding officer would be on the scope, having the bearing, range, etc. called out, and the WE would have to actually enter that into the TDC.

Owell, just a thought. No way to actually do it from our end, I think. But wouldn't that be awesome to play? :hmm:

Maybe in Sh5.

Too bad its not possible now but if and when it is maybe you could start the war as an OberFanrich and work your way up to Kaelun!

Oh yeah...... *dreaming*.... That would be so awesome!:up: Like BF2, with multiple players on a vehicle... The possibility to fight as captain & crew.... Really put the word "clan" in perspective... Or should i say "pack"..;)
Excellent idea, Albrecht!:yep::rock:

I think that's a great idea. Instead of "clans" you could have "crews." Really would play up the teamwork aspect.

I'd smell a mutiny :arrgh!: There'd need to be a few options for settling disagreements, maybe some Tekken style fighting on the deck, loser ends up staying in the drink, or can be ejected out of sub with some flotsam to distract enemy DD's

Mooncatt 01-31-07 03:43 AM

wow amazing idea good one  ummm who decides to be captain though and whos to say if you were to be captain they would agree with your tactics? and quit the game leaving you short of a helmsman or summat. wouldnt it be a little boring too for say a torpedo loader

Morts 01-31-07 04:24 AM

thats an awesome idea:rock:

Iron Budokan 01-31-07 12:31 PM

That would be great, I for one would love to do that!

I dont think the chain of command would be a problem, as long as the players position was arranged before entering the game. It would also have to be a mutual agreement that the player who was the captain, was the boss of that uboat for that game. Then they could change captain and so on in future games. If everybody was mature and serious, this would be possible. :yep:

Maybe I imagined it (I often do) but I bought SH III because some advert/blurb/review said you could do just that...or am I going mad.

By the way I am perfectly happy without that facility as I I've got GWX.

Would be a great idea....maybe for a new multiplayer clan too....with promotions to get the command of a boat if duty well done and successful.

Dont think it would work. Have you read any of the forums for BF2. Lots of arguments about people shooting their partners, although in this game you wouldnt be able to shoot your crewmate. Maybe a little sabotage. Did I spell that right?

Maybe the BF2 MP is full of 12 year old kids with aggression-issues..
From what i have seen here on Subsim, those who are really dedicated would make an excellent crew for such a gameplay. I have no doubt that 95 % of the members here would take such a task serious.:yep:

100% agree
However if someone brings aggression issues and donīt follow the orders, he will get to simulated military tribunal....if found guilty = banned....if found not guilty = not banned....but I think like u said at least 95% would take a task like this very serious.

Oh yeas, deadly serious. :>

Mein Kapitaen would have to be extremely cautious, as I'd be a fanatic officer/soldier. If he ordered me for example "sink them all" I would do it regardless the costs: by ramming, surfacing under, shooting with my pistol... And I would shoot to the survivors too - all means all. If he ordered "crash dive!" I'd surely dive the boat and then crush it on the bottom, as that was exactly what he ordered me... didn't he? The same applies to: "fire at will", "all stop"... Yes, it would be a great fun!!! :rotfl:
