Edit Renown - not for cheating, there is valid a reason
HI all,
Had a very annoying problem last night with renown. I just finished a patrol in Feb 1942, driving a type VIIC out of Brest. I came across TWO convoys and scored 11 ships in total, 2 tankers and 9 cargo with full manual targeting and full realism settings (except external camera - I too like the eye candy!). My total tonnage was just over 83,000 tons. Now, when I returned to port I had earned a little over 3000 Renown points. So, after promoting some crew members, and enlisting some new men I still had about 2000 left. So I went to the u-boat upgrade screen and added some Bold decoys, an engine upgrade and a few other bits and pieces including the first radar. I still had a little over 500 renown left. I then clicked on the torpedo loadout screen and saw that it had put Falke homing torpedoes into my forward tubes. Personally I prefer the steam driven or standard electrics at the front as I usually fire from up close or from within a convoy. So I changed these out no problem. But - I accidentally added a Falke to my stern stores. This took off 500 renown leaving me with only 25 left. When I changed it back to the steam driven torp that was there in the first place I didn't get the renown back! - I just lost 500 renown points!! So, unable to find a way around it I exited the game, and updated my personnel profile in SH3 Commander and left it for the night, with a view to posting this question today. So the question is - how can I get those 500 points back that basically shouldn't have been kept by the game. In this instance I don't see it as cheating if I edit a config file somewhere, but if there is another way I would appreciate it if you can point me in the right direction. Cheers guys! Px3000 PS - Just noticed I screwed up the grammar in the title!!! - Should obviously read "Edit Renown - not for cheating, there is a valid reason" |
Go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME \My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\Careers\CAREER NAME Choose patrol numer -whatever you are currently on Open the read me file in note pad, scroll down near the bottom and you should see- DeltaRenown=25.000000 change value back to DeltaRenown=500.000000 Then save the file. Hope this helps.. |

But personally I prefer tha black over the white colour (actually 'black' isn;t a colour, but that's irrelevant.). :) And to make myself clear - I am absolutely NOT a nazi follower or supporter. I'm extremely glad that the III Reich was defeated. I've lost two grandparents in Nazi Death Camps and another two of unknown fate, dissapeared in '44. |
:roll:Neither's White.:rotfl:They're shades.:know:

11 ships...........two convoys.........maybe i am doing something wrong:oops:

Are nuts that means me too. :damn: |
I'm a firm believer that you shouldn't have to use renoun to get torpedos.... no matter what they are. You can go into the Data/Basic.cfg and change the renoun to zero for them and save. Tho I'd do it while "In Base" just to be safe. ;)
:hmm: Is it a cheat, no, not in my opinion. Have you ever read that torpedos had to be bought during WWII for any side? I haven't yet. But that's "player's choice". And the same can be said for equipement. |
OK since no one is saying anything I will let it out and join all of you guys in the Sith;) :D
If you want more renown but you don't want to cheat you can alter your realism settings. That means you can play in any realism level you like and still get full renown for the ships you kill. That way at least you do 'earn' the renown;) To do this you have to edit the GameplaySettings.cfg file at C\Program Files\Ubisoft\SH3\data\Cfg To do this go towards the end of the file where it say [Realism Settings]. There set every realism setting you're not using to zero and add more value to the ones you're using. Be careful though as all the numbers should add to 100. That way you're playing at 100% realism for the computer and you get full renown. Now can I have my place in Sith:p :D :D |

Hi,
Thanks JU_88! I'll try that next time I load up SH3. I've never been one to edit files like this, I've always believed that if you get crap renown you keep it crap until you improve. But in this case you feel cheated by the game - it should have given those 500 points back as I didn't actually want the Falke torpedo. So STEED, I don't see it as joining the dark-side at all - LOL!!! @IceGrog - Mate, all I can say - lots of luck helped me with that tonnage! I broke off contact with a merchant after seeing the radio report of the convoy on the map. I attacked the it 3 times - took a couple of days overall. Got DC's a few times, but wasn't too badly damaged. Attempting the 4th attack I couldn't even get close, the Destroyers were everywhere, so decided to break off the attack. Heading back to Brest with only 3 torps left (and low on fuel) I saw another convoy and I was on an intercept course attacking off their port side at 100 degrees. I fired all 3 eels at 2kms and hit a pyro which went down easily, a tanker and a large merchant. I finished off the merchant with the deck gun the following morning shortly after dawn when the destroyers were nowhere in sight then headed home. Cheers guys! Px3000 PS - Just to stress this - I don't plan to cheat to get torpedoes - SH3 conned me out of those 500 points by adding a torpedo I didn't want and not giving me back the 500 when I replaced it with a pre-war steam torp. I won't be editing these files afterwards for any other reason, but I feel it's justified in this case. |
@ Mel
The knowledge you now weld with this realism hack does indeed mean that you have joined the dark side. Never underestimate the power of the dark side, DarthMel.:|\\ |
