how do you get contact alerts out loud
 

I think I have read that people playing at 1x compression wait for their watch, radio ro sonar to alert them somehow so they don't have to watch the screen. How do you do this, my crew is silent - on sonar contact or visual just shifts to 8x compression (my setting through SH3commander) or 1x for a plane, but no yelling, beeping, ringing or other noise comes forth.

I think the sound files only play when at 1x TC, so normally they shoot shout for the airplanes... "Flugzeug gesichtet". If you set other contacts to drop down at 1xTC you should also hear "Schiff gesichtet" from the bridge watch or "Kontakt" from the hydrophone room...

If you do this, it is really slow getting out of harbor with Harbor traffic enabled.
