Flood tubes?

I saw a scene in Das boot when the captain said to flood tubes 1 to 4, why this doesnt show on SH3?

It does. You use 'Q' to 'open tube doors' and that's exactly the same thing, as after opening water fills the space around torpedo, pushing air off.

You would flood them all if you selected salvo, then q to open the doors. Same for single shots. For added effect go into your sound files and increase the volume on that particular sound file.

You can do this with Sound Recorder in Windows.

opening ya tubes before firing makes sure there is no delay. if you fire with the tubes closed there is a delay in firing this in my experience makes the torp more likely to miss.

Its not the same thing, because in the movie he said flood tubes and afterwards said to open torpedo doors.

Ok now you are knit picking!!! There are a lot things that are not historically correct in the movie but with that said....I believe you do flood tubes and then open doors...anyone?????:hmm:

StandingCow 01-25-07 11:08 AM

Nope, opening the doors allows the water in, hence flooding the tubes. ;)

Here is our only question. Tube full if air, do not want to see air go to surface thus alerting vessel you are aiming for. Are the tubes not flooded to eliminate the air then doors opened?

Where the hell is Sailor Steve when you need him:nope:

Right here, but as lacking in specific knowledge as everybody else. The outer doors open inward, but the inward doors have to push outward against the pressure. Granted, the pressure at periscope depth isn't too bad, but the boat is also moving forward, so it makes sense that the tubes would be flooded before opening the doors.

Of course what I think makes sense and what really happens aren't always the same thing. Where's one of our real-life sub guys when we need him?

I seem to remember a scene from The Hunt For Red October, where USS Dallas and Red October have sighter each other and Jack Ryan is trying to communicate with Cpt Ramius in order to find out his intentions. They seem to make a big fuzz about torpedo doors being open, but tubes not flooded. I belive Ramius opens the outer doors, to show his crew that he's taking the threat seriously, but not flooding the tubes, not to provoce Dallas.

Yeah, I know, it's a movie, and not a very realistic one, but it's the best I've got to contribute with! :)

Got it! Yep, it's flood first, then open inner doors.

It was actually the other way around.
Flood tube(s), do not open outer doors.
The Cpt. of the Dallas later calling the Russian Cpt a "cool customer" of sorts. Accuracy of hollywood always being questionable, as well as the spelling of quotes.:88)
