Darn those Russians...
Reading on the front page again...
... if the Kilo Improved is supposed to be a quiet hole in the ocean how quiet is the "next generation" Lada...:o ... scary. And there's supposed to be an export version... *sigh*... Why do those Russians always insist on arming every country in the world with quiet death machines of dewm...:-? Or is the Lada not really more quiet or capable than the Kilo Improved? |
Quietness has many aspects. You have engine plant noise, other machinery noise, waterflow noise, cavitation noise .. all of these vary with speed.
Kilo for example is quiet at low speed and at stop. Otherwise it is not very quiet (in DW, supposed to be the same IRL). There is some room for improvement. Also quietness is not the most important thing. The most important thing is ratio between detection and counterdetection range. Kilo is hard to detect, but it has rather weak sensors (especially it does not have TA). So most of the time Kilo is detected first, even if it has noise advantage. Why they sell Ladas I can't really tell .. why people sell weapons at all ? |

Not all Russians but a few. Same story everywhere, everytime...

Russia lada (AIP) has been roumerd to be as quiet as a 212, the kilo for a 20 year old submarine is not that quiet its only about en par with a traffie or even a 688i, i doubt its much more quieter unless your sailing in the improved version or in alrosa.
