This is plain nuts
On patrol 1940 come across a small merchant and went in for the kill and I wish I had not, it took nine T1 torps to sink her. You heard me right my fellow captains one after the other and finally when number nine slam in to her guts she finally went up in smoke.:arrgh!:

The crew must have been bailing water FAST!
:rotfl: :rotfl: |
january 1941, shot two merchants, a big one with one torp and deck gun, a small ship only by gunfire. i thought i should better save my torpedos.
on the whole trip i met no further ship! took all other torps back to base, counting less than 10k tons. awful trip  |
Some ships carry a cargo of empty barrels all tied together. Even if the hull is full of holes (and water!), as long as she does not break up and release the barrels, she will never sink.
There are a few examples of this during the war. Unusual, but far from impossible. |
Most odd
Had 3 one shot kills on small mercs tonight Even sank a large cargo with one Which surprised me |

STEED, war is hell. Ain't it? ;) But don't feel bad, I've had to use 5 torpedos on a Pass/Cargo and then use the DG. After 4 shots from that she finally went down. Which seemed strange. Then fired 7 torps at a Large Merchant and found 2 were duds. After 45 minutes real time it finally went down. Just part of the way it is I guess. The longest time is reloading torpedos, it seems to take forever.

Hauling cork I guess. :rotfl:

It was a new diversion weapon. It is called a halograph. Projected real images by Allied submarines that are submerged. It was an attempt to have uboats waste the torps. Works well!

The most so far on a small ship has been 5 torpedos. One amidships, both port and starboard, and the same for the stern area. Then I finally gave her a shot just forward of the forweard mast, and she finally succumbed to her wounds. Never blew up though. Not even after going under, so the boilers must have been cold. Just settled beneath the waves is all. Very anticlimactic.
