All Hope Lost

Just a question but if all hope is lost can you surrender the boat and white flag it?

GSpector 01-17-07 03:03 AM

Nice option, but not an option that I've ever seen.

Woof1701 01-17-07 03:13 AM

You can surface and abandon ship (if you still can). Than you normally become POW. But I haven't tried it.

In a campaign there is no way to do this, but if I remember right this is actually an option in single missions. I wonder if this is intentional or if someone just misplaced a line of code somewhere?

Mooncatt 01-17-07 04:53 AM

surrender?!!!!!!! never:arrgh!:

IRONxMortlock 01-17-07 05:00 AM

I don't think it's possible in campaign mode but if you're using SH3 Commander you can change the record of a dead Captain and crew to show that they surrendered instead of being lost at sea. Just click on where it says "Lost at sea during patrol x" and it should change to surrendered.

SHIII itself does not permit surrender. You can use SH3Commander to reset your dead status to surrendered if you want after the fat lady sings.

Nobody sang on my funeral... Maybe that's because there was no any funeral at all? :)

Remember, that SH3 Commander stricly requires that you change the status from "killed" to "surrendered" only if at the very moment of death you were surfaced. Surrending to fish and crabs doesn't count.

Nope I'm affraid you have to go down with your boat. If you're using SH3Cmd though and you die in game you have the option to change your status to surrender.

Just read what the SH3 Commander prompts when asked to change the status. :)

IN my mind this is one of the more troubling omissions from the campaign. The programmers should have understood two things;

1 Many U boat crews were taken prisoner, and they should have given you a simple command to replicate this.

2 AOTD modelled this event 10 years ago!!

Sink them all or die trying there's no way you can surrender or abandon ship in the game unless you got SH3 Commander installed.

"Never give up! Never surrender!"

hyperion2206 01-17-07 10:52 AM

Don't forget the saying of that time: "Die Fahne ist mehr als der Tod!" (The flag is worth much more than [your] death):rotfl::arrgh!:

Sailor Steve 01-17-07 11:42 AM

The original Silent Hunter let you abandon ship, then told you whether you were captured, lost at sea or escaped to safety.
