A Bit Puzzled?
 

Yeah im a bit puzzled and confused. I got the game for my birthday last week and i started playing it. I started a career and on my first patrol found a convoy which was protected by one destroyer, i sank about 47,000 tons, o yeah the year was 1940, i forget what port i was based in. But when i came back to my base i had 2 iron crosses (2nd class) and some other medals waitting for my crew and also a promotion for one of the crew. I then went out on another patrol and got killed by like 4 destroyers and some armed trawlers so i started another career. That was different both good and bad. I just started my 9th patrol in may of 1940, on a monday. i have the Uboat clasp, the Uboat War clasp, both Iron crosses and the Knights cross with Oak leaves. I have a total of about 85,000 tons sunk, im beating like 6 people in the Ace's list. But im still a LT junior and i havent been able to promote anyone on my ship. And there are alot of enlisted sailors that have my same last name, Hansen, i asked my dad and he said Hansen is a popular Danish name and some of my relatives served in the German Army and Navy. So i was wondering When im going to get promoted and when i can promote some of my enlisted crew? I mean if this was real life that wouldnt happen in the German Navy???

Your rank is based upon how much renown you have. You use renown to upgrade and change your boat and this may make it so that you never get a chance to "save" enough renown to get to the level required for the next rank.

I have no idea why your crew isn't earning promotions though.

I use a mod called SH3 Commander to manage my crew and this is a much better system IMO. Well worth downloading and installing.

Interesting, when i go to hand out medals and i put my cursor over the promotions "thing" it says something about completeing patrol? now i usually chart a course home to where i'am with in sight of my base, so i had completed the patrol and all of my crew has been on atleast 8 patrols, the only thing that might be wrong was that i dismissed my orginal watchman and brought on a LT Senior, Who outranks me. Would this have anything to do with it?

Nope,

The program is as finicky and buggy as hell. The "you must complete a patrol" comes up all the time, if you keep highlighting different crew members it usually goes away, be patient. It is only the lack of something better that keeps me playing it.
