what can you do when a DD has pinged your sub?

I explain the situation: there are 2 DD
I fire four torpedoes to one and i sank it but i haven't the space to attack the other DD
I made crash dive and i stay under the sea to recharge my torpedo
I have the DD over me and he fires his bombs
The stealthmeather sign green and i try to escape and give the periscope depth
but it's impossible to have the correct distance and position to fire the torpedoes
when i'm at the periscope depth the DD understand my presence and eat the distance he want the collision
What kind of manouvre i must do to have the right fire position?

You don't.

First, the only real way to shake a DD is to be either very deep or very shallow (Periscope Depth), and running at 2 knots or less in silent running. If you are very deep, it will take too long to get to the surface to attack in any meaningful way.

My advice is to stay deep, stay slow and silent, and try to keep the minimum profile you can towards that DD. Just creep away from him.

You sank one of the DD's, so pat yourself and your crew on the back, and live to fight another day. You go pressing your luck, and you will most likely get a mouthful of ashcan.

Dont bother trying to hit him
Forget reloading and go to silent running
Go as deep as you can and avoid his depth cgarges

Let him steam away after losing your scent

it's not so simple.... i try to stay in the depth but the DD has your last position and he know that you are not fast
So He start to launch bombs in a big area and there are good possibility that he
kill you altough your stealthmeter is green

Have you ever made a mission with 8 ships and 6 DD?:D
My best score was with a VIIC 1 petrol and 2 DD

Camaero 01-16-07 03:33 PM

What to do when there are 3 or 4 of those bad boys working together? I have been fighting with 3 or 4 for over two hours now. (real time of course)

Can't shake em. Morale is wearing thin.:dead:

I am extremely deep (241-260) and my boat sinks a few meters every 30 secs or so at 1kts so I have to speed up to maintain a none life threatening depth.

I do not remember my boat sinking the last patrol using GWX. Actually, it went up, now down. I would much rather prefer it going up right about now. Think this is SHIII Commander? Or what?

i got even big problems with an armed trawler, he spotted my dived sub, engines were off long time ago. i dived deeper, moved only on schleichfahrt, this guy always knows where i am. its impossible to escape. 100m, course changes, schleichfahrt only, full flank when he drops his bombs and after a few seconds i stopped the engines, he doesn´t care. he always knows exactly where i am. any suggestions what to do? its a bit to far to dive home, otherwise my friends could shoot him. i go no torps left and he has got no more bombs.
what a trawler, he is realy amazing:doh:

edit
and,yes i read the manual several times. i heading home from a convoy attack, i dived into the convoy and out without being detected, but this one is incredible.

You can risk surfacing and shooting him with your deck gun, that should be quite easy. Waiting till he asks his friends for help will not bring you home. Other idea would be ramming him, but that's much more difficult to do - he's small and fast.

i tried both. lost one man from my guncrew, damaged my flak and deckgun when trying to sink him with my boat. he is always heading directly over my position, even when i drifted for a longer time.

So... now the last thing is to meet him face to face... or bow to bow. His boat could be weaker, could be not. You won't know till you try. Or dive as deep, as it's possible and pray for a miracle. Pray at sonar station, of course...

Try this

Set your rudder for 5 or 10 degrees away from the nearest DD. Keep it there.

When they set up for a DC run, they will move in a straight line to where you used to be. I don't think they can work against a turning target.

I have survived using this method. It might help.

You can also zig zag using the 5 and 10 degree turns off your intended course. Don't turn too often though or it becomes a straight line to them.

Think like a real u-boat commander. Destroyers are both dangerous and a waste of good torpedoes. Attack merchants.

stefano79 01-16-07 04:32 PM

but if the DD becomes to close the distance and wants my ******* my first objective is sink him with 3 torpedoes and one T5
:o :o :o :o

he is detecting my even during turns. i do a left 15°, he corrects his course, i switch to right 15° and he turns right after one or two seconds, even with engines off :hmm:

Don't think you should be safe with engines off. He knows you are still there. He will just depth charge your last known position and you will probably be very close to that point. :yep:
