How fast can you go while being pinged?
Does the loud ping allow you to go any faster than 1kts? (GWX user btw)
|
Depends...
In general, 1kts is the max. when being pinged. But you can try 2kts for a short while, and then go back to 1kts. Here, I posted how I personally handle it...others may have different approaches, of course. |
2 kts and under will help you avoid detection
If you feel the DD are close then as they are dropping DC you can go to flank - deploy a bold - and make a sharp course change Then back to 2 kts and listen |
Thank you sirs.

How is speed even a factor if you're getting pinged? Doesn't the ping reflect of your massive metal phallus whether its moving or not?
|
Well I was curious if the loud pings made it harder for them to hear me, in which case I could go a little faster.

It's pretty obvious...the enemy has a sonar- and a hydrophone-guy.
One pings you (loud ping=sure lock), and the other listens for you. Hence the 1kts-maximum, at critical times....on silent-running. To cope with his sonar, you have to pay more attention to depth- and course-changes. Mann the hydrophone yourself, and speed up when he speeds up (he's going to depthcharge you)...slow down again, after the last DC explodes. When you hear his engines stop, you stop as well...he's carefully listening! Try to make sudden turns on speeding up, set back to 1kts, and use the decreasing-speed time to change depth again. Keeping a low profile is probably the best thing anyway...keep them on your six! It's a tedious job, but you can save your boat. :D |
