Small Problem with GWX or SH3C - Supply Ships and Assigning Patrol Grids

I'm not sure where the problem is but here's what happens:

I dock at a supply ship (every time so far has been the one in the canary Islands).
I quit Sh3
I rollback SH3C
I make sure I have the base set as "in other base"
I set my patrol grid to what was assigned as my mission orders prior to docking with the supply ship
I launch SH3 via SH3C
I go into mission

and my patrol grid is set to "NULL". I've tried this many times and it's always "NULL".

Is this something on my end or have I discovered a bug?

Thanks,

M

Firstly, I don't think you need to rollback in this instance.(I maybe wrong)

Secondly, The 'NULL' grid, does this appear on the loading screens? If I am correct the new patrol grid should be displayed 'in game' under mission orders.

It's been awhile since I used a Milk Cow so I can't remember the proceedure too well.
Is it explained in the SH3Cmdr Readme?

The 'NULL' patrol grid is correct :yep:
When I dock at a milchcow I continue on to my originally assigned patrol grid (as you should have only lost one day on the calendar) :arrgh!:

If you do that, do you still get your renown award for your 24hr patrol?

I thought that you could set a new grid via SH3Cmdr and actually have it updated in game.:hmm:

Nope, my orders are blank.

So do you mean I shouldn't alter the "NULL" grid in SH3C after docking with supply ship? i.e. Although it says "NULL" in SH3C it will still be set as my original patrol grid in game?

If I remember correctly you cannot alter the NULL patrol grid. Even if you change it in SH3Cmd it will still be NULL in game and you will not get renown. One of the limitations of the game engine I'm affraid

The grid you add thru commander is for your benefit only
Remember SH3 was shipped with no Milkcows or resupply ships so I dont think the Devs ever thought about a grid after
The NULL grid is a result of docking at a friendly port - which is how the game reads milkcows and resupply ships

The facility to change that to always recieve a grid afer docking at any port is somewhere hardcoded

Just a minor clarification... ;)

The grid set through SH3Cmdr is more than just for the player's benefit. When set while docked at your own base, it is recognised by the game just like any SH3-generated grid. Useful for WaW players and others that just don't like what they've been given.

The problem is when you dock at a "friendly" base. Put simply, docking at a friendly base "breaks" SH3's relationship modelling, thus resulting in NULL grids as no appropriate value (ie link) is found.

This disconnect goes beyond the patrol grid itself, hence why attempting to correct with SH3Cmdr in these circumstances has no effect.

Fortunately, there are three ways around this problem:

1. Always complete your objectives *before* docking. Thus, you will not lose renown (remember, it's not really until you return to your home base that you have completed a patrol. SH3 just doesn't recognise this aspect, hence why every docking is considered a patrol completion).

2. Start the patrol, save and exit and use Stiebler's SH3Patrol to correct. Then restart the patrol again.

3. Start the patrol, save and exit and manually edit the newly-created .psc file located in your career's savegame folder - the value you need to change is fairly self-evident. ;) (only follow this one if you know what you are doing). Then restart the patrol again.

Personally, I follow #1 (least hassle for me). And as I am currently in the Indian Ocean and hence have already compensated my renown values (see a previous post of mine in another thread), I don't lose out either way. ;)

Big problem with SH3Patrol

I used to SH3 1.4 + NYGM 2.0 + SH3Comm 2.6.
The problem occurs when I docked to Utanker.
First I exit from office to SH3 main menu, next I exit to windows (ALT TAB or Windows button) and run SH3Patrol.
After I made all of changes in SH3Patrol (select proper Ocean tanker base, enter memorized patrol grid) I return to Sh3, choose career 'in base before mission' and I was very confused because, a date is back about a month. For example when I docked about 19 April 1942 after SH3Patrol modification, the game which I load have date 10 March 1942. When I go to the patrol the grid is ok, but utanker disapper of course because in March 1942 none of utankers haven't reach this patrol area.
Can you explain me what's going on?
Maybe I make some mistakes when I do SH3Patrol procedure?
