Nice! Thanks for posting this. U-505 just happens to be my current sub in SH3. I had no idea it was so famous!

EDIT - That control room looks rather familar

Went down to visit it 2 weeks ago. I live outside Chicago and have been there too many times to count but this was the first time in it's new underground home-They did an awesome job putting this whole thing together.

Only two downsides. 1. They wait till there's about 15-20 people for the inside tour-crammed in like sardines-cannot hear or see anything because it's too crowded and 2. They won't allow pictures of interior because they got complaints from some worthless, no nothing, a**holes that they were disturbed by the flashes. Being in Liberal Chicago where political correctness knows no bounds, the officials naturally decided not to risk offending anyone for any reason.

We got there early before the little kiddies turned it into a jungle gymn, and enjoyed the hundreds of displays. The tour guide's name was John and he really did love the boat, said he was there during the planning stages and assisted with the display. Very nice guy but, surprisingly was not all that knowledgable about the sub and it's long sordid history. Oh well, we can't all live on the Subsim forums.

It's well worth the trip and I'll probably go again soon. Too much to take in on one trip.

It must have been something when Hans Goebeler ( former crew member, author of Steel Boat, Iron Hearts ) gave informal tours when he was there.
