Correct way of starting SH3

I have SH3 GWX & SH3C installed.

Call me a noob, but just how does one start a session of SH3? Do I use SH3C all the time, or only when I start off from port? On patrol can I use the SH3 executable, or must I still launch the game using SH3 Commander?

Thanks for clarifications.

If you didn't roll back SH3 Commander when you last quit, then there's no need. If you did, then yes, use SH3 Commander again. If you have alot of date-based content its best to get in the habit of rolling SH3 commander back after quitting every time, and starting the game with SH3 commander all the time.

I run SH3 Cdr one time at start of patrol to actualize files in SH3. After this I launch game with FS Autostart directly. I roll back SH3 Cdr after updating my personnel file at the end of patrol.
So far, so good...

I've found that using SHIII Cmdr when running your career is the best way to start. It keeps your log up to date properly. Rolling back is necessary when you add any mod, or change a cfg file. I don't roll back after every save, even tho 2.7 askes if you want to after a save. So far it's worked fine. But getting in the habit of rolling back is safer IMHO.

Just so you know, if your new to SHIII and SHIII Cmdr..... If you don't roll back Cmdr before you add a mod, the mod probably won't work. And never ever add a mod while on patrol. You will lose your career, as Ive found out the hard way. Only add mods or make changes while "In Base". This goes for any version of SHIII and SHIII Cmdr you use.

Same here; I like to look over my crew files before starting.

I can't find the post, but JScones has already stated that if you use Commander, then you need to start SH3 every time with Commander.

I use it mainly for 2 features : disable fatigue in GWX and realistic career length, so running it only once at start of patrol is doing the job.
Can't say for sure for other features...

I use SHCommander as well. I used the days in base option, but after a patrol, the days in base was not correct, any ideas?

Damage will extend your days in port as will upgrades - on top of what you set for SH3commander
