You know you've spent too long in type IX's when you...

habitually look at the "local time" to see when the sun will rise.

think of a single merchant as an opportunity to use your stern tubes.

try to use your stern tubes before your bow tubes.

find yourself constantly micomanaging your torpedo expenditure.

find yourself constantly and habitually monitoring your fuel consumption.

have done patrols to any grid that starts with "GR"

know exactly where Durban and Columbo are without having to look at a map.

think of Saint Helena and immedialy a cruiser comes to mind.

crack a smile at the word, "Curacao"

know where the productive spots in the carribean are by memory.

can guess by memory how many days it takes to cross the atlantic

have ever felt compelled to increase time compression to 2048 because your patrol grid is often 25 days away with relatively nothing in between.

you think of a good career game as having your number of patrols in the single digits, but having days at sea in the triple digits.

have nearly memorized the uboat numbers that were historically type9 uboats. So when reading WW2 literature, can guess the boat type purely by its number. For example, you know by memory U-65 was an IXB and U-66 was an IXC.

last but not least.....

post threads like this on subsim because your enroute to your patrol area, and even with 2048 TC, have about 20-25 minute wait before you get near your theater of operations. (not that i am right now, but ive done so numberous times in the past)

Sadly I know what you mean. But I just can't give them up no matter their faults.

You know you've spent too long in type IX's when you...

Actually grow a beard whilst playing

Get annoyed that a convoy has interrupted your cup of tea / book

Start including imaginary crew in your patrol reports

Hesitate to crash dive because that aeroplane might mean you don't have to suffer the return voyage

Let a cargo ship pass you because you might see a BIG cargo ship in a few weeks

last but not least.....

Start believing that you use less fuel submerged ;)

...When you can't stay in a type 7 longer than 2 wks.....:rotfl:

Welcome back to the 'good' side.

LOL, i am guilty of all of the above. Althoguh growing a beard isnt intentional. I have this thing, i spent 7 years in the service and had to shave EVERY day. Now since i dont have to, ill shave like once a week, or whenever i feel like it out of spite. Im such the rebel. lol.

You can't have that boat it's mine:o

It's currently on patrol in DT66 and a convoy report has just come in, so you'll have to wait.:rotfl:

*cries*

Nooooo... i put all this work into an IXB (see my flavoured thead, up to version 4 now), got the emblem, i even edited crew caps ( or was going to) to have the emblem as well.

Only other boat i was thinking about was U-110, although i liked u-103 more. EIther that or U-65, but i dont think id like starting THAT early in the war.

My two cents:

...when you start cutting the mold off of your bread instead of pitching it to buy another loaf

...you yell at the wife for not logging the weight of the food supplies used in cooking dinner

How could i have jinxed it? I have the luck of the irish! Shells, Tin'cans, hell even merchants sinking on top of me haven't touched me yet! If anything, im probably a good luck charm.

Of course i know your just saying all this, and your still running around in U-103 somewhere. ;) No way your career ended THAT fast. ;)

danlisa 01-05-07 06:07 PM

lol :p

Ducimus 01-05-07 06:18 PM

Truthfully, id like to do U-64, even though it's life was short lived. Because it was the first IX uboat of the war. (IXa aside) I think that symbolic. I also think my last type9 career should be the first one that appears in SH3. Would take me a LONG time to complete too. Only reason i don't try that is a silly one.

I don't have its insigna.
http://www.uboataces.com/emblems/64.jpg
Id try and import it, but any job id do would be super amatuerish and it would look like crap. So ive limited my boat selection to insigna's in existance.
