Night vis......
I dont know about the rest of you....but I cant see @#%* at night......I have disabled the 16km atmosphere to no avail....how can I get back the visibility I had in GW 1.1a......it may be my monitor...but I have tried turning up the brightness which doesnt help much........or of course.....it could be my eyes :yep: :hmm:

A few people have had similar issues and I believe the only thing suggested has been to adjust your monitor settings.
|
Sorry to hear that.......I can only do so much on that end....Thanx anyways Jim...

Google around, there are plenty of programs that will adjust your gamma, brightness and contrast settings. If your video card has a control center then you should be able to do it from there as well.

drinking lots of carrot juice might help.

Or maybe replacing the light bulb in your computer room with a red bulb.

Yes, see if your card has a separate gamma/brightness adjustment. Tweek from there.

For me, body position helped tons. My monitor sits on a hutch about 6" off the desk. On top of that I slouch in my chair so I basically lie back in my reclining chair and look up at the screen.
Night was so dark for me that I couldn't even see traffic in the starting harbor. It was very frustrating. So frustrating that I was thinking about removing GWX. After colliding with a tug, I decided its time to adjust gamma or remove the mod. I sat up to start messing with the controls and low and behold I see a ship on the horizon. I changed my watch standing times. I lie down in the chair during the day (in the captains bed) and sit up in my chair so I'm even with the monitor at night. It's still dark (like it should be), but I've gone from 0 visibility to being able to navigate a harbor and make out shipping/smoke on the horizon now...I'm happy! Edited note: brightness doesn’t usually help…try moving the gamma up from 1.0 to 1.5. |

The solution is simple: responsible are the skycolors*.dat files located in data\env folder I replaced them with these from light night mod (Marhkimov's work I guess) I'm not sure where you could find this mod now but Ducimus used these (or similar) light night files in his mod http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=102761 so if you want only lighter night d/l his mod and use the whole data\env folder |
Really, it does boil down to what kind of monitor and video card you have.
Chances are that if you have a good High definition LCD monitor and a good video card, then the night time will be just fine. (yes, dark like dark is in real life). Even with my good hardware, I always helps to turn off the lights, especially when there is little to no moon. |

Adjusting card settings bleaches everything white.
The problem with adjusting your Gamma and other settings is that it bleaches out the color, and everything gets pale and pasty white. I find that both GW and GWX are so dark that I am unable to see the man next to me on the bridge. It is a black screen with any kind of background light, and, even in a totally dark room, visibility is little beyond the nose of the boat. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT card.

If you adjusted your settings and things look washed out then you have adjusted your settings wrong.
It's a balancing act between gamma, contrast and brightness When you have the settings all correct the inner boxes will look the same shade as the outer boxes (works best on CTR monitors) http://www.photo.net/bboard-uploads/000zGI-721884.jpg |
