U864 Operation Caesar

Only once have two submarines duelled to the death. In February 1945 HMS Venturer hunted down and sank the U-Boat U864, a craft on a deadly secret mission.

Lookout for the programme on the BBC TWO (9pm, Friday 5 January)

Happy new year and all.

HMs Venturer vs. U 864 =
"This is the only known incident in all of naval warfare in which one submarine sinks another while both are submerged." (quote u-boat.net).

Subs sinking subs, that happened more than once in WWII.

Yep the submerged bit makes the U864 incident unique, apparently.

This just sounds too outrageous to be true with the equipment of the day. Amazing story if the hit was really done the way its told:salute:
