Kiel Canal
After trying to set up the autopilot and giving up, I just went ahead and set up waypoints, which took me about 10 minutes and let the sumbie go. Leaving Kiel and getting under the first bridge I simply sat and enjoyed the scenery and watched for conflicting traffic. Full marks to the Dev team. The experience made me think of Sailing from San Francisco Bay into the California Delta.
Then I went into TCx4, took a shower, came back, watched the scenery. Went to have breakfast watched the scenery while eating eggs. Back to x4TC. Had a ciggie outside. Came back in time to sail out of the western end of the canal. In toto, a nice experience. ONCE ! On my return from patrol did the same thing but was able to transit the canal at x64 TC. Great! On the second patrol, outbound, the damn thing would not let me TC more than x4. Bummer! Then I discovered that if you keep the speed of the boat at under 5 knots, GWX will allow you to compress time higher than x 4 Visit my webbie :know: http://www.freewebs.com/kielman/index.htm Besties Brag |
If you use SH3 Cdr, you can set yourself the max TC near land. If not you can edit it manually in My Documents\SH3\Data\Cfg\Main

The secret to the auto waypoints is to set them before moving
Go to your nav and set pattern outbound That will lay out the route Then click follow course and away you go If you use SH3 commander its very simple to up your TC when in land proximity I have mine set to 128 when in Kiel Of course if not using SH3commander you can edit the main.cfg in your SH3 folder in my docs Best do that before leaving for patrol though |
That's pretty much how I run mine as well :) Glad to see that I seem to be getting the hang of things if I'm doing some of the same stuff that everyone else is doing ;)
I load up, click on my navigator, go to configure way points (or search pattern, what ever it's called), then choose Kiel out, tell my helms to get underway, then plot out the rest of my path, including comeing back and placing my last way on the Kiel in marker, then just riding the rest out. I don't mess with editing my TC settings but am able to run any where from 128 to 256 on my way back in. |
Tried that setting out of Kiel way points setthrought the canal died all the times so I went back to the 2 flottilla,

No problems with the 2 flottila big boats,big torp load out, and going out a proper harbour, W/haven.:lol:

As long as I click on Kiel out before I move my boat, it all works fine. Entering the canal however, I am not quite sure where to line my boat up to. Anyone know?

Just sail up close to the inbound point - tis marked on the map
Same procedure for the outbound fromm there on Your boat will join the laid out course |
What heading should U-boat be on at Keil Inbound point?
Several times when I come to the Keil Inbound point, I stop precisely on top of it and click the Keil Inbound pattern. The pattern gets plotted, but it's 90 degrees off, and the plotted course takes me across the land and out into the western North sea.
It usually takes me 2 or more tries to get the Keil inbound course to plot correctly on the Canal. I haven't figured out what the differences are that make it plot 90 degrees off. Should I approach the inbound point with a heading of 0 degrees, or 90 degrees. Does it make a difference if your course is a tiny bit off of the inbound point? What things influence the way the Keil Inbound pattern is plotted? |
Didn't try it in GWX yet, but in NYGM you have to mark exit point and come back to it at a 90° heading before plotting the inbound.
