That's not unreasonable. Once you reach a decent depth and run silent, it's almost impossible for them to accurately target a U-boat. Between the loss of contact once they are with 200 meters of you, the depth you're at, the time it takes for an ashcan to 'fall' to you, and the fact that most depth charges 'tumbled' as they sank, weaving off location, it was rare for a depth charge to damage a U-boat once at depth.

Mostly they keep dropping them to: 1) hope for a lucky hit, and 2) force the U-boat to remain submerged. That both permitted the convoy to continue safely running, and also the escorts knew that, at some point, if they were patient and waited long enough, the U-boat would be forced to surface before they asphxiated.

Excellent men... Better if you have the screenshots

(Anyway, carrier or escort carrier?)

Being depth charged by 5.5 hrs is painful, but, I'll show you my method and let see if it works for u

Remember: The DDs don't have much DC left. The only stuff you need is patientce

You are now the national hero of Germany... Donitz will order a burial of full honour if u die... so don't mind

Attacking a task force in 1945 is said to be a scucide, but you made it, the only stuff is how to escape

If I were u, I would dive deep, deploy a decoy every 10 minutes of game time, rig for silent running, of cause, get a repairing team handy sounds cool also... By the way, don't remember to man the sonar room (if u know how to do so)

Go to the opposite direction of the task force (i.e. if it is going north, you go south). If you are near your base, try to get closer to your base(just like what the Americans had done to U-571)

After some time, maybe a hour or 2 of game time, the DDs will run out of DCs or you will be away from the DDs. i.e. finally escaped (or they will be busily charging the decoy)

Don't attempt to surface after the incident, in fact, 1945 is NEVER the time for you to surface. Air raid will start soon as the ousted DDs radio to call for air support. Get back to periscope depth. Raise your schrokel to recharge batt. Let exhausted crews to rest and others to reload fish (don;t do external reload). Still, go opposite to the task force. Don't radio to Bdu about your victory(HF/DF). Do it later. Check your depth below keel often. Crash dive when you discover a plane (with radar in schrokel) By this way, you can get back to your base(although slowly)

I'm not sure my method is workable in 1945, but at least, I tried it in 1944 after being chased by 4 DDs
