Whale factory ship?

A stupid question: why do i see so many whale factory ships in the middle of large convoys of petrol, weapons, trucks, airplanes ecc ecc.... Is the whale a so esteemed food in all the world?? I thought only japanese still eat these poor whales :nope:

At that time Iceland and Norway had also large whale factory fleets, Russia probably also and may be some other countries I am not aware of and these ships where converted for supply duties probably.
Think I heard recently on the news that Iceland was going whale hunting again...

They are Ex-Whale factory ships that are being used to transport vital war goods and food.

If you sink a whale factory ship and send a status report it is shown as a tanker. Perhaps they were refited to carry oil or gasoline?:hmm:

Much of a whale factory's space was devoted to storing whale oil. Refitting them to carry petroleum products was a simple thing.
