Most Patrols complete
Ahoy Shipmates :arrgh!: ,
Whats the most patrols everyone has completed so far?, i am currently on my 18th patrol in the middle of 1941, but i always save my gave before a major engagement so i do not yet play "Dead is Dead". Also I transfered my career from GW 1.1 to GWX, once I have finished the war with this career I will play "Dead is Dead" and also play x1 TC for my next career, its just that being a submariner in real life and going back to sea at the end of January I am trying to get as much gaming in as possible before I have to give up SH3 for 3 months:cry: whilst on a real life patrol, its a shame how current naval affairs conflict with virtual historical ones, id much rather be at home fighting a virtual war than being in a tin can hundreds of meters below training for a real one :shifty: |
im playing vaniila atm and im on patrol 25ish i think
i used to have GW and i got to patrol 10 before i had to re-install windows coz i got a virus boooo. and havent got net access at home yet due to moving house |
Im playing GWX and so far I have done 12 patrols next patrol am of on Operation Drumbeat.

Same career continued from stock SHIII over all patches and supermods - now on GWX.
Im on mission 27 and have now been promoted to Kapitänleutnant for the first time.. Many of the missions are missions where i have docked in several harbours before i came back to home port. |
I made a total two, yes count them, two patrols before I was beaten down like a red headed step child. I play GWX and I play like a lunatic:o
|
I was able to get in 44 patrols using a modded SH3 when the computer crashed and when I restarted, the career file was corrupted. Damned computer. Just starting my 1st in GWX.
What with all I'm hearing about GWX, I hope my old reflexes are able to get me through these shaky difficult missions. Yes, that eastern approach into Scapa Flow, you have to watch out for those blocking ships. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year in case I don't make it back onto subsim before it begins. Rob |
I usually make it from 1939 to about 1942 before getting the snot kicked out of me. I play a modified "Dead is Dead", in that if I get called away from the game for whatever reason (wife and kid, actual work, etc.) and I end up dying because I didn't pause or whatever, I get a do-over. Wife, kids, and work generally didn't interrupt the typical u-boat commander on patrol! If, on the other hand, I die in glorious battle, because of a stupid mistake I made or a good move by the other side, I accept it and start a new career.
This time, however, I started my career in 1943 in the 11th Flotilla in Bergen, hoping to last long enough to get a Type XXI. By the way, there probably is a mod for this, but I don't know where it is, but it would be interesting to play a Type XXI from the start of the War. For the most part, the technology was there, it just required someone with vision to put it all together in the 1930's instead of the 1940's. For instance, the British R class boats of late WWI had roughly the same performance of the Type XXI/XXIII with a high underwater speed. Why that wasn't seized upon by either side is a mystery to me. |
I'd propose the exact opposite. How FEW patrols have you done, and how late into the war did you go?
I think ive had one career, started in 42, ended in 45, i had .. if i remeber correctly, just EIGHT patrols with over 600 days at sea. |
Yep if your playing with at least 28 days between patrols and more for damage
More again on top for upgrades well I dont think the patrol count should get anywhere near 25 - 30 tops if you go from 39 - 45 And if you spend a lot of time at sea then expect even less patrols Take U105 for example From Sept 40 till sunk in June 43 managed 9 patrols http://uboat.net/boats/u105.htm |
I'm playing with 20 days min. spent i base .
Actually is November 1941 and i've done 8 patrols... |
It depends very much on the type and length of patrols. You can pack a lot more if you're based in Brest with a VII hunting around the UK than if you're based in Lorient and hunt the African coast or the Caribbean with a IX...

I prefer to spend as much time away from base port as possible pushing my boat further and further South, i use the supply ships for fuel, torpedos and to give my crew a few good runs ashore in the local whore houses, keeps morale up, theres nothing better for your crew than sailing with full weapons, full fresh fruit and empty gonads
I spent 11 months of 1940 out of base port returning only for Christmas and New Year, didnt want the lads to miss Santa Claus did I, terribly bad for morale. |
It also very much depends if you're playing dead is dead or just reload last save when you sink...;)
