Sad News

Today while I was at work (Devonport Naval Base, Plymouth) I saw the sailors of the USS USS Minneapolis Nuclear Submarine preparing to sail, the weather has been pretty bad and a force 9 gale off the Plyouth coast, later today 2 sailors from the boat went over the side a mile off Plymouth and sadly drowned.

A few chosen words for these poor blokes:-

Lord God, our power evermore,
Whose arms doth reach the ocean floor,
Dive with our men beneath the sea;
Traverse the depths protectively.
O' hear us when we pray, and keep
Them safe from peril in the deep.
There are no roses on a Sailor's grave,
No lilies on an ocean wave.
The only tribute are the seagulls' sweeps,
And the teardrops that a sweetheart weeps

Lord, these departed shipmates with dolphins on their chest,
Are a part of an outfit known as the best.
Make them welcome and take them by the hand,
You'll find without a doubt they were the best in all the land.

So, heavenly Father, add their names to the roll,
Of our departed shipmates still on patrol.
Let them know that we who survive,
Will always keep their memories alive.

Heard about this today on the radio while working, a tragic way to die especially at this time of year.

Footprints in the Sand
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?”

The Lord replied,
“The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand,
is when I carried you.”

I hope their familes are being carried through this sad time

A prayer for the 2 men who died, their families, and the remaining officers and crew of the sub. It is so easy for those who regularly go in harm's way to forget that what feels routine can turn deadly in an instant.

My condolances to the families of those sailors.

RIP fellas.

*loads two torpedoes into the tubes, points the bow out to sea, and fires them* Godspeed!

This might be a bit jigoistic, but thank God for these folks that died. they keep me and mine safe at night, and I love them.

I will say a prayer for you tonight, mainly that you had the guts to go where I did not. God bless you and yours. The world is a better place because of you.

I hope that at New London they do some kind of memorial for these heros. They really should. So tourists like me can pay the respect that our heros deserve.
