Aircraft and Time compression

Doing my first full patrol at 1x tc Aircraft sightings have been 6 to 8 times more than when you tc There is something when time compressing your crew dosn't see them or they spawn more at 1x !! Air has never been for me this active --------------------------1x rules------------- Allthogh I have only been attacked twice by Air the air sightings have been ten fold:rock:

yes

the higher time compressions make it more likely for the aircraft generation phase to fail a test so you see less aircraft.

sorry I cannot find the post explaining the details right now, search not cooperating fully.

>512=No aircraft.
Preferably, you should be at 256 or less.

Jimbuna 12-25-06 04:30 PM

IIRC (using GWX) the higher TC still allows aircraft to spawn but less likely they'll spot you :arrgh!:

codmander 12-25-06 09:09 PM

the buggers where waitin for me!!!!! p depth most of the day surfaced just to hear-AIRCRAFT MED RANGE LOL as they made swiss cheese and pepper out of my conning tower with their machine guns :o lesson 1 playin at 1x cruise deeper than p depth luckily noone was killed damage was keep to a minimun homeward leg should take 46 hours but running at 2knots looks like an extra day nightime approchs (((WHEW)) and friendlier waters ahead of me:up: Wilhelmshaven gets closer and closer:yep:

Aircraft spawn at high TC, the problem is that they miss the player. Here's the maths:

Units (Planes, ships, etc.) in the 3d world around the players boat have their positions calculated in real time. This does not change with TC settings.

Units Outside of the 3d world (about 32km away from your boat) units do not have their positions calculated in real time to save on CPU. It would be impossible to calculate the position of every single convoy, destroyer and plane constantly.

Insted the game works from the 2d map that mod makers will be familiar with. The game only updates a units position every "time step". If the unit's position falls within the 3d world round the u-boat the game will begin to calculate it in real time.

If it was possible to see a unit outside the 3d world you would see it move in jumps every time step. When you speed up TC these time steps do not speed up. This mean that the jumps these units make gets bigger.

If the time step happens every second, a aeroplane is moving at 1m per second will jump 1m every time step at 1xTC. At 2xTC it will jump 2m per time step. At x1024 TC it will jump 1024m. (numbers not accurate - I don't know how oftern the time steps are!)

The faster the unit's speed: The bigger the jumps are.
The higher the TC: the bigger the jumps are.

For a fast unit like a aeroplane the jumps get very big at high TC and the aeroplane can jump right past the 32km radius round the player's boat. Alto the planes path went right past the U-Boat, the computer never calculated it's position to be near the u-boat so the plane never got placed in the 3d world.
The computer and the player have no idea that a plane just passed them.

See this diagram. Each red dot represents a single position the aircraft was calculated to be in. The Yellow circle is the 3d world round the players u-boat.

Thanks Letum, at last an explanation of how TC affects aircraft and spotting routines in this sim.

:nope: Nope, explain me how the Hell I got a Aircraft spotted at 512 TC and get 4 planes at the same Time attacking my Submarine (2 Fighters + 2 Bombers)
GWX btw

but even in stock travelling under 512 TC doesnt leave me Aircraft free.

maybe you see less planes but they will still be spotted going under 512x TC

You start to miss planes at x2 TC. Its possible that one will fly at the edge of the 3d world and get missed by the position calculateing system. Possible, but unlikely.

Its also possible that you will see a plane at x2048 TC if the planes foot step happens to fall in the 3d world zone. Possible, but unlikely.

Above x512 TC it is getting very unlikely that you will see a plane, but not impossible as HunterICX demonstrates.

Below x128TC it is getting very unlikely that you miss a plane.

Yes - in previous discussions the actions of aircraft and other units have been likened to a rabbit
Hopping from 1 waypoint to the next
The faster the TC the bigger the hop
Now you can see aircraft\ships at high TC if at the end of a hop - lol - they are within your 3d world
Which is why sometimes the ship\plane is almost upon you by the time the game drops to 1 TC

At low TC the units are generated as they enter at the limit to your 3d world
Which is how you can spot them at 16 km away

Hartmann 12-26-06 12:52 PM

Seems that 128 /256 tc is a good compromise between aircraft spotting and Tc.

i canīt play 1x patrols because i donīt have enough time and patience.
it means that one patrol could last months and not only a weekend

If the aircrafts speed are reduced could be spotted more at high TC ?? :hmm:

mr chris 12-26-06 12:59 PM

The highest i go is 128 or 256 and i cant get away from the buggers and im in 39:o
You gotta love GWX:rock:

codmander 12-26-06 03:07 PM

SO in fact you miss ships, planes and probly whole convoys by time compressing! sounds like a game ruining feature and should be done away with:arrgh!:

staring at the map room watching a dot ,a square and a line instead of a moonrise hmmm -------time compressors might as well play PONG LMAO --only kidding-- actully it is a great feature for the ""dead spots""

Jimbuna 12-26-06 03:41 PM

Wouldn't exactly say it was 'game ruining'...let's just say playing at TC no higher than x256 means you miss less

This is something I have benn thinking too. If it is possible to reduce the speed of aircraft to 7knots when they are going from waypoint to waypoint, but still have them move at the propper speed when they enter the 3d world then the problem would be solved!

Is this possible modders?
