GWX install folder

Sorry if this has already been addressed: I have a clean install, patched, ready for GWX under the directory GreyWolves. In in the manual it says GWX will only install in the SilentHunterIII directory. I already have WAC mod in the SH3 folder. Does that mean I have to rename both folders (and the corresponding links) to install GWX or does it allow installing in different folder? Thx.

I'm really looking forward to experiencing GWX.

Hi and Merry Christmas to you. If you have simply just renamed your new fresh installation to 'GreyWolves' but has all the right bits in it i.e. 1.4 patch then click 'browse' and point the installation to this and all should be well; by default you will get a SHIII Grey Wolves icon on your Desktop from which you can launch from after installation. Hope this helps you.

OH, one more thing, make sure you don't have a SHIII folder in My Documents before firing up GWX !
Here's my tip for this.. create a folder in My Documents and label it SHIIIWAC Garage [or similar], drag the SHIIIWAC version you have there into the folder out of the way then fire up GWX after installation; this will automatically create a SHIII folder in My Documents which you could label SHIIIGWX; then create another 'garage'. I have 4 'garages' for 4 different versions.

The way I did it, was I had to create a separate install for Stock for Multi Player games with the 4th Flotilla, so I Disabled all the stuff from JSGME in my UBWA install, now I have a stock install.

Next, I Copied the entire Ubisoft folder to My Documents, renamed it 4th Flotilla. Then I created another folder named GWX, copied the SilentHunterIII folder into the GWX folder. Then, installed JSGME and installed GWX. After GWX was complete, I changed the GWX folder name back to Ubisoft. I installed and ran MultiSH3 to create a save folder for GWX. Then I installed a copy of SH3 Cmdr in My documents. If you want to run SH3 Cmdr with both UBWA and GWX, you need 2 separate SH3 Cmdr installs(one on desktop, and one in My Documents). You will need to change the path to the one in My Documents for the GWX install. I am not good at explaining that part, but I did it without the /Switch method(I also used FS Autostart to set path for both Cmdr desktop icons.

I have FS Autostart at my FileFront page, it is mainly a program for shutting down background programs, but it also is good for multiple similar icons in the same place.

I now have Stock,UBWA2.0, and GWX. I am so proud of myself, and thank Potoroo for MultiSH3.

Thanks for all you help! The install went flawlessly. :) I've been reading the GWX manual - it's a history lesson, too! Worth the price of admission. ;)

Old sayings I was brought up with #2 ...

Patience is a virtue, use it when you can,
Seldom in a Woman and never in a Man.

Another simple way to handle the "My Documents" files is to use MultiSHIII...
