Problem with skins and with a "fix" mod
Hello everyone,
I will post this thread in this forum and sorry for the double post ; I was aware it was here it should have started, but this forum was locked at one point, and I thought it would've been for a longer period of time. Maybe a moderator could be kind enough to delete this other thread ? http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=102574 So, I was saying that I'd be (very !) pleased to get your help on this issue : I'm using SH3 + IUB (not enough power unfortunately for GWX) + SH3 Cmdr. I wanted to use a killer skin from Fubar for my VIIC : I rolled back SH3 Cmdr files (if ever it was useful) and applied the skin via JSME ; then started the game again via SH3 Cmdr, loaded my career's patrol and... NO change !?! As my U-Boot has the cable alignement problem :-? , I tried to solve this issue - at least - with Flakwalker's "Type VIIC 3D Cable Fix Mod" : I removed Fubar's VIIC skin with JSME and then applied this fix mod in the same way (JSME) : no change in the game either... Thinking it maybe was because I was at mid-patrol, I started a new career with a different name : the cables are still misaligned despite the mod. Quid ????? :hmm: Thanks for your help and... Merry X-Mas !!! Chris |

AI U-boats are rendered before your boat. The AI U-boats share characteristics with your U-boat and as part of the process overwrite your files. In harbor... you will see that your cables are broken when the fix is indeed applied... In your case what you need to do is leave 3D rendering distance of all AI U-boats in your vicinity (50 km is safe) ... save your patrol... and exit the game. Upon re-entering the game you should find that your cables are fixed. |
Thts intresting.
Is there a cable fix for the AI boats? |

Being unaware of how the game really works make things quite hard (if not impossible) to understand even when an apparently simple "problem" occurs ! Now regarding your points, I applied Fubar's skin for my VIIC (VIIC Med Camo to be precise) in a way it should have worked : I saved my game in mid-patrol far away from any coastal area and exited the game. Rolled back SH3 Cmdr, and applied the skin via JSME. Then launched the game again via SH3 Cmdr and loaded my saved patrol : no change. Of course, I checked the skin was for a VIIC and double checked that the path to the right folder(s) was okay ; the skin was actually "ready to use" with JSME, with all the files already put in the "ready to JSME" (if I can say) folders. Did I miss anything here ? |
After some time spent on that, it finally worked for the skin ; seems that the files were not valid or something, downloading it from another source solved the problem.
Now about the cable fix, it's another story... Seems it's already included in IuB ? When starting a single mission with a VII C in 1941 (I don't mean with a VIIC/41), the cables are fixed. Then going back to my career (started in 1941 with a VIIC) in the middle of my fifth patrol, the cables are still misaligned. Applying the "cable fix" via JSGME (i.e. replacing the Turm7c_1_hd.dat & Turm7c_2_hd.dat files in the game) doesn't change things : cables are fixed in single missions, not in the career mode. So it seems that other Turm7c_XXX_hd.dat files may be involved ? :damn: |
[Update on the "cable fix" problem]
At the end of my 6th patrol, I had to dock in Las Palmas in order to ressuply at the Corrientes ship ; and guess what ? After this ressuply (leaving from Las Palmas), the cables were fixed ! I made this 7th patrol with no probs (even saving and leaving the game) and eventually got back to my base at la Rochelle at the end of it. At the start of my next patrol, the cables were misaligned again ! :stare: Remembering Kpt. Lehman's point, I saved my patrol at more or less 300 km from coasts and exited the game. Re-entered the game : cables are still messed. :shifty: I guess that the lack of any AI U-Boot in Las Palmas is the reason why the cables were fixed. But it seems that in classical naval bases, the "files shared" between AI submarines and mine are at the origin of the bug, and that these bloody files stuck to my U-Boot all over the patrol, leaving the game away from any 3D view or not... I know it's a silly detail, but damn, it really pisses me off ! Am I the only one encountering this problem ? Has anyone an idea to solve that issue or to fix quite simply those nasty AI submarines' "bad cable" files ????? Danke ! :88) |
@ Edelweiss :
"I'm using SH3 + IUB (not enough power unfortunately for GWX) + SH3 Cmdr." The way GWX is packed in dat files, it shouldn't differ much. Just install the Light Harbour Traffic option. I think it would be worth a try as it is really another game. Just make a double install and if it doesn't work revert to your old one. It runs fine on my laptop with 1.8 Gig Centrino, 512 ram and 128 meg video. ( Only slows down around 18-20 fps in harbours, I have the full HT on ) |
Thanks Corsair, but I think my video card is too weak. I made a double install and the game's running fine when alone at sea. But I attacked a big convoy and the game then became really unplayable : incredibly slow and at times almost frozen. Using the freeview at one point even made my computer crash : not a simple CTD but a total reboot ! :dead:
New boat textures, more details and accuracy to the eye (among tons of other things) makes bigger (and more numerous sometimes) texture files that my video card has some hard time dealing with. But it's the price to pay to play a better game. So, later for sure ! I'm not in a hurry to play GWX : to really appreciate the taste of caviar one day, one need to be used to eat potatoes first. ;) Don't people see here anything against IuB at all, it's already an incredible improvement compared to the stock game. But I've been playing Silent Hunter since the very first issue (SH1), and I'm - sometimes - a kind of patient guy. Except for this damned broken cables that are ruining my wonderful (and personalised by myself) skin from Fubar ! :damn: Here the arrival at Las Palmas, cables broken (not obvious, but trust me !) : http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/9...masrondav2.jpg |
Then leaving Las Palmas after the ressuply, what a surprise !

Then starting a new patrol after my return to St Nazaire : cables broken again !
http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/4...nazairexg3.jpg No change in saving the game offshore, exiting and loading it again... |
No problemo, mate, started myself with Silent Service on my C64, and been a long user of RuB mod before switching lately to NYGM and GWX...
