A shot I could not believe !!
Out in my trusty U-94,, heading ENE ,, off the W coast of Ireland,
My sound man detects a merhy and off I go,, get within sight and she is Passenger liner,, cooking off her speped at 21 kts, I set myself up for a CPA but at 4200 yards, I realixze she is now running away from me,, Zand I am at my Scope,, cursing that I had not fored a spread earlier, and maybe had a chance, In absolute frustation I let loose 1 torpedo, Amazed, at 5300 mt There is the BOOM!! a one in 10 million shot,, and she slows to 11 kts, I could not believe it,, caught up to her, Smooth seas, broad daylight, no escort, 1944, She now sleeps a full fathom five. Just Dumb luck on my trusty steed! |
Long range shots are satisfying. Historically, reminds me of the famous story of Mohr's sinking of HMS Dunedin, where his torpedoes ran for 5 minutes before hitting the cruiser. :hmm: |
When it happens it's adream come true. Hope your mem enjoy it as it could always be there last!
