Friend or foe?

I'm new to anything but the vanilla SH3 and i'm used to black, red or green map icons.

Is looking at the flag the only way of IDing ships these days? Even at 10X those tiny little flags are damn hard to see!

Yes, im afraid that was the reality of the uboatcrews aswell..:yep:

Yes....the game mods make the realism more in tune to reality and place an importance on positive ID of the target.

:D the coding of SH3 has some kind of cheat implemented for GWX users:

when being at a high TC-rate and encountering a hostile ship, the WO reports it with "ship spotted".
If its neutral or friendly, the ship-spotted-message displays in the window at the center bottom but no sound is played.

At least you know that the lighted ships in GWX are neutrals for sure.

A little OT, but... If lighted ships was a reality in WWII, did anyone use this knowledge of Lighted ship = neutral ship to scam the enemy, using this for military purposes? I know its not legal to do so in war, but could this have happend?:hmm:

I would think that they would have investigated any ship contact, lighted or not, and so I'm not sure how effective it would have been to do this.

Yes they did identify lone lighted ships as well, enemy ships could not escape U-boat attacks simply by using the nav lights. Convoy rule was all lights off incl neutrals.
