Werner at it again: 31st patrol
 

On 18th December 1942, 31st patrol of Schwarze Katze….with Lt.Werner once again on board to capture special moments

Weird party going on in the St.Lorient base before leaving on mission.... I already sent report to bdu advicing on extensive use of amphetamines stolen from Luftwaffe stocks and apparently consumed on large scale by off-duty sailors (on the picture on left...)

Received bdu radio about Task Force heading to UK, moving to intercept 200 miles north at flank speed….havent located the Task Force but it must have included aircraft carrier because in short moment our boot becomes target for waves of Swordfish planes and other RAF aircraft….

Fireshow begins as highly motivated crew doesnt dive and engage!

In an unprecedent repelling of incoming RAF forces, heroic performance by FLAK specialist Hilmar Baltz and gun specialist Hasso Paltz (weird name cooindidence by SH3) under command of WO Fritz Friederichz with use of newly mounted 2Ccm FK 38s 10 planes were shot down with little damage caused to submarine!

Iron Cross 2nd Class was awarded to Baltz for this outstanding performance as well as promotion to chief sr.w.officer.

On route back „Schwartze Katze“ was intercepted by British destroyer in rough waters, watch patrol didnt even spotted it unless it started gunning das boot. After crashdive and several hours evasion, sub made it out with 32 perce hull integrity to sail back to St.Lorient to repair, shave, wash & celebrate…
