this is probably a stupid question but do you need grey wolves for this GWX conversion?, am i further than i thought from experiencing this great well... experience!

Good news: you do NOT need Grey Wolves to install/run GWX. It is completely stand-alone. An understandable question, as it is called Grey Wolves EXPANSION. So, no GW needed for GWX... Start downloading my friend!

Do you mean the previouse version of the GW mods installed?. If that is what you mean, then no. GWX can only be applied to a fresh unmodded installation of SHIII with the 1.4b patch installed (the patch must be installed). Also make sure you remove all the files and folders from any previouse installation.
The optional mods included in the GWX download ( a folder called 'Mods' in the main game file) can be installed and removed with the JSGME mod enabler.
