speech is broken in my sh3

Hi all
For some reason all speech in my installed version of sh3 is messed up, i updated my sound driver and still no speech from the crew, i have never encountered anything like this in sh3 or most games for that matter, i don't think it was the mods i installed because they worked fine before. I tried reinstalling the game and still no joy!,
can anybody shed light on this strange problem?

Might seem like a stupid question but I have to ask, in the option page, is the volume turned up?

Hi matey! Do you hear any background noises? (Sub creeking, water splashes)?
Wierd problem, i cant remember having it myself......:hmm:

If the speech sounds garbled and confused then they are probably speaking German. You can change to English in the settings menu.

No way fellas

1. no im not that silly the speech volume is up
2. I always used to play with german sounds on anyway cause it sounds dumb with american submariners talking on a u-boat, one can recognise the orders after a while nyways

yeah seth all the sound is there except speech! crazy eh?

It might possibly be one of the issues arising from the sound card acceleration. From other posts regarding sound issues, reducing the acceleration seems to have been the means to address such problems. It might be worth trying a 'repair' install, if you haven't already.

ok

how do i reduce the sound card acceleration? I don't know much about this sort of stuff

I had the same problem a few months ago. all sound was there except voices. I ended up re installing clean and adding mods againg.

If you are doing a fresh install, make sure to defrag your hard-drive before reinstalling. Also make sure all SHIII files and folders are removed from your machine. You will have to manualy remove some of them, such as the SHIII folder in 'My documents', as these are not removed during the uninstall. I always use a registry cleaning tool as well. Also it might be worth checking to see if you have the latest version of your soundcards drivers installed.
For soundcard acceleration settings, go to: 'Control panel', then 'Sounds and audio devices', click the 'advanced' tab next to 'speakers' then the 'preformance' tab. There you will find two slider controls, one labeled 'Hardware acceleration'.
