any mod to use for slow computer?
hello!
im wondering if there is any mod to use for a slow computer? i mean, if there is any mod made that uses not so "good" textures, maybe some other tweaks and so on, to get more fps then the an orginal install of silent hunter 3. im using a laptop with an ati x1100 and sh3 runs really slow on it.. i was aware of this when i bought the computer :) and i dont want to upset my girlfriend to use her computer all the time i want to play the game. :) i searched in the forums but i didnt find any thread about this. i found this SH3 Mini Tweaker Program, but i didnt find any info if this program can also be used to get more fps. / oys |
Find a new girlfriend. Just kidding. SH3 out of the box is darn demanding. If you are having issues already I would suspect a mod of any kind will slow it some more.

hahah :)
yeah, but i want a mod that uses less complex graphics then the one that comes with the game or using other tweaks to get more framerate. |
SH3 requires CPU and RAM. Technically speaking you need 1GB of RAM to play it but you can get away with 512MB if you have enough CPU power. I have a 3.3GHz with 512MB RAM and SH3/GW/GWX work fine. When you're in places with heavy graphics like harbours convoy attacks etc the game can be a bit slow some times but it general you have no problems at all.
As far as GW is concerned if you have problems with the game just don't install the sea floor mod. That usually does the trick BTW of a funny note follow AVGW advice and leave SH3 now. Get a girl and stop the game. It's too addictive and it will ruin your life:D :D :D :rotfl: :rotfl: |
i've played it alot on my old computer with 512mb ram and a r9800pro gpu and that worked quite nice.
but i sold that computer and bought this laptop, since it's better to have for university and work. but now i start to feel that i want to play it again, guess i have to stick with the slow fps and out of the box version of the game... :( |

chaps, how do i install GW without the sea floor mod?
gw runs like a dog in harbours etc but out on the ocean if i can get it to run smoother there i can put up with it. pete |
In the options menu theres textures setting you can adjust i think .

oyiseer Hello there ;) what system are you using - i mean (windows xp, or 2000)
if you using xp i think i probably will able to help you. I have some tips about increasing preformance (with out overclocking) but the main problem that the text in Russian - and i need to translate it to English first. |
Oyiseer. you didn't say so but have you patched to 1.4b? That is a must for the mods now out to work properly.
Post your system specs to make it easier for the guys to help you figure what you need to get SHIII running on your laptop the way it should run. The more info you gin\ve on your system the better they can help you. ;) There are people that are running their modded SHIII on laptops with no problems. |
@ all
The Seafloor texture is the only thing that cant be cured by reinstalling GW again The stock one need to be added in the correct place - overwriting the enhanced seafloor Not sure why but thats the way that works |
hi!
thanks for all replies :) im sorry i havent replied, but im into so much university studies at the moment that i hadent any time for to check this page. my spec. is: mobile amd sempron 3400+ (1.8 ghz, 256 L2 cache) ati radeon xpress 1100 (128 mb, shares the main memory) 120gb pata hdd 1gb ddr2 and im running windows xp home edition. i guess the poor cpu and graphicscard is the main problem for getting the game run on decent framerate. thanks for the help! / oys |
oh, and i installed the game, patched it and ran hmm.. some mission from the game. the one with the really much battleships at the fjord and i also started a new campaign.
but it runs so slow very often so im not able to play it without getting to much frustated. |
Oyiseer, I would say that the graphics card is what's causing the problem. You should have a newer 256mb gf card, you need the memory there too. Your card sharing memory is not too good. Try to find a X1600 256 card or better if you can.
Also try turning down settings in video options for now to see if that helps a bit. Adding another gig of RAM is a good idea too. 1is good but 2 is better. SHIII can be a memory hog, especially with a bunch of mods intalled. |
