installation question regarding GWX

Perhaps a silly question, but I'm preparing ahead of time for installing GWX (like, who isn't? --grins--). I've already downloaded, unzipped and printed the manual (thank God for laser printers; my old HP DeskJet 400 would have sobbed if I'd asked it to print that tome).

During install, are we going to have an option to select the folder location to install GWX into? The manual states: "the GWX installer will only install GWX into your Silent Hunter III installation folder". Given that lots of us have multiple installations of SHIII I really can't see GWX not being designed to allow selecting the install path location and name but, before I go to a lot of pre-preparation work I'd thought I'd ask.

You will have the option of selecting any folder on your computer...however, the installer will only accept the selected folder if it is a clean, unmodded and patched installation of SH3. To that end, what it's called and where it resides is inconsequential.

Danke. :) That's what I thought, but figgered it wouldn't hurt to make sure.

I'm going to go down the dual install route thus keeping for the time being a GW1.1a version on my system. I have done dual installs of SHIII before using the rename folder and using the original DVD to do a repair install, but I was wondering do I have to delete the SH3 folder in my documents for GWX to install properly or can I leave it intact which I have done in the past with no problems. I know that I can't carry on with a career that I have saved under GW1.1a and that I have to start a new career in GWX. Your advice would be appreciated.

Hi, my advice is to create a folder in My Documents and name it 'GW 1.1a'. Drag the SHIII in My Documents into the folder then [once you have] GWX, fire it up .. this will automatically create another SHIII in My Documents so make another folder and name it GWX ..and on etc.
I have 4 of these which I have called 'Garages' and have the one active with whatever version I'm using. Works for me
