I've been spoiled by SHIII! I cant play any other game now
After 2 1/2 months of completing a patrol a night, I finished the war as a type VII Kaleun. I vowed not to do my type IX career until GWX comes out. Meanwhile, I tried to play a few other games. Lets haul out the older games and take a play.
1. Destroyer Command: way too old and chunky 2. Enigma, Rising Tide: Nice but....130 torpedoes...caucasian please! Plus it seems that all the merchant shipping is tankers. Nice idea but they needed to flesh it out some more. 3. Dangerous Waters: Still a little mickey mouse looking and I find it too easy to complete my objectives as the subs are too quiet, far too well armed with very long range weapons and excellent defences. It's just not the same. Flight sims...they seem just too fast for me now. I like the nice and steady pace of a submarine sim. 4E games cant hold my interest. Theyre too abstract. I need to hear waves crashing over the bow....:lol: I dont even like the ocean to boot. But now I'm hopelessly hooked on subsims. Being addicted is a good thing. Anything else out there that I missed? |
Same here, I like the casual pace of subsims. And then ... BOOM!
MY 20+ PATROL CREW RESTS WITH THE FISHES! NOOOOO! |
Yeah I used to think "no going back", if my crew gets killed, then I'll keep going. Realism all the way.
Then my elite corps of flak gunners and deck watch crew encountered their first...and last b-24. A tear welled up in my eye....all gone! So now I'm a furious reloader. |
I always promise that I will let things play out and not reload... Then I come up with excuses to talk myself into doing it anyway. "If I was a real skipper, I would have been smart enough not to do that. Reload!"

Yeah, I was an IL2 junkie and I have the X52 joystick and TrackIR. Basically $200.00 worth of flight sim gadgets collecting dust now thanks to me discovering the GW mod. I had SH3 when it hit he shelves over two years ago. Played it and got board because, well, it was not finished as a game. GW changed that and now GWX just around the corner...I guess IL2 will be collecting more dust....
|
Thankfully I found a nice balance between SHIII and IL2, my two favorite games. But with both IL2;'46 and GWX comming in a few days..... I fear I wont sleep at all :D
|
Same here... and on top I would add GTR 2 and Falcon 4 AF...;)
|
Oh ... GTR 2 is so good! I am grinning everytime I push some race car around the mighty Nordschleife.

Its not as hard as GTR was! (Real FIA GT drivers said GTR was harder than racing for real :rotfl:, unlike GTR 2, which is supposed to be very close to reality)
Anyway, keep driving, your lap times WILL drop. (And the Logitech MOMO Racing is getting cheaper, I`ve had it for about a year, and its my girlfriend now) |

Thanks to the GW addon I have only time for one game. SHIII and that's it! I can't see this changing with the release of GWX. If anything it will be worse if that is at all possible. ;)

I think we need an "Im addicted to SHIII" Thread..
"Hi, my name is _Seth_, and im an SHIII-oholic.." *reply* "HI SETH!" |
Q) What is SH3 addiction?
A) Once an individual has tried SH3, they may be unable to predict or control the extent to which they will continue to use. SH3 is probably the most addictive game that has been devised so far. SH3 addicts must have more and more mods to sustain their high and avoid the intense "crash" or depression that follows their binges. They become physically and psychologically dependent on mods. All to often, the process of mod addiction goes something like this: The "soon to be addict" downloads their first mod. Upon instalation of this mod, the users brain instantly begins the addiction process. The individual's mental and emotional being is soon to follow, but for now just their brain suffers from the initial stages of mod addiction. After the first few times using the mod, their mind slowly starts the addiction process. This grows stronger and stronger until, mentally, the mod addict believes that they cannot live without mods. They now are entangled in a full fledged mod addiction. Shortly after this occurs, mods takes complete control over their emotions. Once the individual's emotions have been overridden by mods, they no longer feel normal without downloading mods . When this occurs they feel the need to use more mods just to feel normal. In order to get high they have to download super mods. Their mod addiction has infiltrated all areas of their life. They can no longer function physically, emotionally, or mentally without mods. This cycle of addiction continues until the individual either quits and returns in a few months or just starts making mods. |
