DW campaign help, please!

Good evening all.

I just re-started playing DW. I'm on mission 2 (Vladivostok) in the packaged campaign.

I am apparently missing accomplishing a mission task, as I do the recon on the port, and exit the harbor.

In the mission goals, it says my goals are to 1) recon shipyard. 2) recon surface threats. 3) exit area. 4) mission complete. The mission briefing only states to recon the shipyard and observe surface contacts. No timeline is given for how long to recon the area.

Obviously I've exited the area, and done recon on the shipyard. My 2nd attempt at completing the mission, I lurked around the area till 22:30 hours and found no other surface contacts to recon. I don't get any radio messages from around 17:00 on, (after starting mission at 16:00).

In my first attempt I was detected,so I exited upon getting the message informing me it was probable that I was detected, so I left immediatly. On the 2nd I wasn't detected, yet I missed out on some sort of "trigger", and obviously the mission isn't complete, and I can't advance in the campaign.

Anyone care to offer suggestions ??

Thanks in advance.

It's a long time since I played the campaign myself, but I assume you haven't found all the targets. In addition to sonar, you can recon by periscope (remember to click "mark") and ESM. If a target doesn't move you can't find it with passive sonar.

(Or is this the mission with P-3? In that case I remember you had to find some ground targets as well, and some of the ships or subs in and outside the harbour were not especially easy to find.)

Try putting up your streaming radio wire to get any more commands from HQ. I am in the middle of this mission currently. When I recived the radio broadcast after identifying the ships in the harbor(and SEVERAL close calls with an enemy sub and one REALLY aggressive surface ship), I recieved a message something to the fact that there are strange goings on being reported at the other naval base off to the east and I was ordered to go check it out. Be careful going that way, the ocean floor is pretty shallow in that direction and there's only a few tiny routs that you can take to get in there. Make sure you check the depths of the entire rout you take in. I'm in the process of going all the way around the shallow area so I can get in there from the southeast side as there seems to be a less shallow valley running southeast from that base that will provide a nice little corridor in.. or so it seems so far.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm working on it now.

I forgot to mention that I'm playing the Seawolf, and to keep from obvious detection, I'm staying at or below 5 knots speed. Enough to keep my TA from bottoming out when streamed out at 1/3 or so.

This time I'm venturing further north towards the shipyard before classifing that target. I'm keeping my radio wire streamed thus far into the mission as well, but thanks for pointing that out Blacklight.

I had the exact same problem as you, and then I realized that you have to identify the targets with the stadimeter in order to activate the "trigger". The game is specifically looking for you to _visually_ identify one or two specific targets close to the outer mouth of the harbor (but distinctly outside of it) these are the ships they are talking about possibly attempting to leave the harbor. Hope this "intel" helps.

Just be careful in there. Like I said, The whole mission, I was dogged after by a sub somewhere to the south and after I visually ID'd the ships, I was pretty much AGRESSIVELY tracked by one of the surface vessels.. the damn thing pretty much chased me out of the harbor. I could see it loose contact with me... then pick me up again, turn and run at me like a gangbuster only to lose me again after some stealthy course and speed changes. This process repeated over and over again for a good hour or so till I made it out of the harbor (moving between 2-3-5 knots randomly)

Not stadimeter .. just periscope .. place cross on the target, click mark. That's enough. Stadimeter is the device for getting target range from photo. You don't have to do that.
