Country music is almost non-existent over here in the UK. Back home in Oz the country music scene is alive and well and there have been some artists which have made it in the States. Obviously compared to the US it is small. Where is Slim Dusty? :D

There was a great Scottish series called Transatlantic Sessions from the 90's where many country artists played with luminaries of the trad. folk movement in the Isles. Here are a couple of my faves from that show. The first is the Sweetheart of the Rodeo, Emmylou Harris with two of my favorite Irish singers, Mary Black & Delores Keane singing the song "Sonny".

The second is Iris Dement and Emmylou singing Dement's song, the hauntingly beautiful,"Our Town." Two of the purest female country voices around these days.
