Impression after Dev.Diary 2
Hello,
Ive just seen the Dev.Diary2 released by Ubi. I have to tell that they are doing a fantastic work. What about the capability of making some missions in the atlantic if is going to be available? Would be interesting the capability to resuply the subs on allied ports,or suply ships on open water, and make incursions near or into enemy harbors here in Europe, having into consideration AI Uboats and more. Another point, that I hope will see in the next Diary,is the sub interior. We have seen 3d images of the control room and conning tower, well, really would like the whole sub interior would be in 3d,but if not,at least give us the chance to walk by the commanders and officers room aswell. Best regards. |

I think that by using a modified and improved version of the SH3 enging, the DEVS are now able to add the kind of detailed work on SH4 that there really wasn't time for on SH3.
The recently released videos of the early version of SH4 show significant improvements over SH3 in just about every area. I think the DEVS also owe a debt of gratitude to the SH3 modders, as some of the changes we're seeing in SH4 are as a result of the modding that had taken place in SH3. If they can release SH4 with all its improvements and keep the minimum specs the same as SH3 ,then they deserve much praise and I hope this Forum will be as quick to praise them as we have been to criticize them. From what I'm seeing, SH4 might just be the best WW2 subsim ever. |
Why should they stick to SH3 minimum specs? SH3 didnīt stick to SH1 minimum specs, did it? Iīd like to see the best that is possible. With DirectX10 lurking around the SHIV engine looks very conservative, e.g. they only support 2.0 shaders. Letīs not forget how fast hardware develops and priced drop... My 2 cents, AS

Sorry to say this, but it's ridiculous to compare the progression in graphics and power from Silent Hunter to Silent Hunter III to that of the third installment (SH III) to this sequel (SH4). |

Therefore, Ubisoft will strive to make all the stated improvements to the game while attempting to leave the specs almost the same as SH3 (Shader model requirement looks like it will be higher than SH3) |
My $0.02
If Ubi weren't recycling the SHIII game engine, it would be years before we saw the next Silent Hunter installment... Remember the gap between SHI and SHII?
Can't have it both ways! |
It certianly is going to look very nice. I just hope that all the remaining things from SHIII are fixed/fleshed out. AI, sub damage, cargo ship hitpoints stuff etc. and not just upgrade the graphics and add some other mission types you can do.

Just watched dev2, weather and water - stunning is my impression. The dev lads have done a beautiful job. Does anyone know the minimum specs of pc's for SH4 yet? |

Subron 50  |
Just saw the trailer for this one, and there was some pretty impressive looking stuff about the water and the weather. One thing I noted with some amusement (and disappointment, I must say) - right at the very beginning of the clip the sub sails past in the harbor and sure enough, the lighthouse shines right through the conning tower of the sub. Guess they haven't figured out how to fix that particular annoyance yet :(
Still - I can't wait for this one, and I can't wait to see the trailer with the interiors - the teaser at the end of this clip was very intriguing :) |
I'm going to withhold judgement until I see videos of Subs vs merchants and DDs vs Subs.
It's one thing to see video of a scenario, what I want to see are videos from a campaign. |
