Video card SLI question
Ok I currently have a 7800gt PCI-E and was thinking of getting a second and running them as SLI, I do have dual PCI-E slots, with my system config below in my sig will this significantly increase my visual performance/framerates on all games and do I need to buy anything else to run in SLI? I noticed in pictures there is a special piece to clip over the cards to connect them.
Thanks for the help fellas. |
That special piece should have come with your motherboard. Also, you're going to get a max performance boost of something like 25%, and that only with games that specifically support SLI, which I don't think SH3 does. The second card will also have to be a 7800gt, but I think the manufacturer doesn't matter so much.

Thanks guys but being the impulsive guy I am I just ordered a Geforce 8800GTS 640MB from NewEgg for $462, this will blow all games away. The only thing is my wife will kill me if I let her find out, I guess thats why we have seperate credit cards

I hope you have at least 500W PSU.

Can I double up my 6800 ? [somehow I don't think Santa's coming down the chimney with a shiny new do-it-all Computer !]:rotfl:

To run SLI all you need is two video cards with the same core (G71 for the 7900GT/GTX, G70 for the 7800GT/GTX/GTX 512) and a PSU capable of powering both. You can have different amounts of memory even.
That 8800 will destroy even 7800GT SLI if I'm correct. |
It is also VERY important to ensure your motherboard supports SLI.
|
Most people (excluding BIOS hackers) won't try to run SLI on a non-SLI mobo.
