Hospital Ships

OK I know they are neutral and if you sink onw it's -10k renown.(GW)this is my dilema I encountered a hospital ship 3 times on my last patrol,1st time escorted by a Troop transport,2nd time on its own,and 3rd time again escorted by a troop transport.
Now my dilema is a Troop transport is armed and has some firepower behind it,in my philosophy any neutral sailing under armed escort being whatever hospital ship or what is a prime target,Now I let the Hospital ship go twice and only sank the troop transport, if they are alone I let them sail.
Now I would like to ask you all how would you consider this dilema ?.
Is the hospital ship travelling under armed escort takeing in mind that a troop transport is well armed better than a corvet anyway and close to the fire power of a dd but without the speed,or do you clas the troop transport as a Merchant (which it techincally is) what would you do?

I let the hospital ship pass by. Period. It's considered non-hostile and that's that.

Respect symbols of protection. Never attack a protected individual or vehicle.

Hey, what'd you expect from a Red Cross member:p?

Hospital Ship

In RL, I don't know if you would be allowed to sink it (although in RL, the hospital ship probably wouldn't have been under armed escort in the first place). But in SHIII, whether you feel you have the right to sink the vessel or not, you will still lose the renown points.:o So I would let the ship proceed...:hmm:

You're right Andy; a hospital ship convoyed with a military vessel would be a legit target. I think it happened because there was an entry for two transports to spawn in the campaign layer, and the old version of the hospital ship mod has the HS classified as a transport. A newer version corrected this with an entirely separate Red Cross nationality.

I'm with Safe Keeper on this. Hospital ships are off limits, period. They're worth -10x renown for a reason. Reason being that if you sunk one Donitz would drum you out of the Kriegsmarine for war crimes quicker than you can blink!

Respect the hospital ship :yep:
SINK EVERYTHING ELSE!!

peterloo 12-03-06 05:53 AM

skip it pls, esp. if you are using maual TDC

you may accidentally sink the hospital ship by error, and what you will face is

1) Labour in Eastern Front

2) Trial after WWII

3) Being hung because of this (violation of humanity)

So be it then no sinking hospital ships even if they are escorted by Troop transports,am in 42 at the momment and useing T2 torps, but come 43 my subs change there torpedo loadout to all accoustic torps and them fish go for the biggest noise in the water irrispective of neutrality, lucky for me I will be hunting in the carribean soon and there's no hospital ships down there,(well I never seen one South of NY).
any way thanks for the advice guys.

I agree with the previous posts - hospital ships are off-limits, no exceptions. If one is traveling close enough to a valid target that there is a risk I might hit it, I'll let the target ship go. Won't let the allies trick me into an inetrnational incident!

I thought the Kriegsmarine is already at total war.

bookworm_020 12-03-06 10:15 PM

Total war ment they could sink ships of any nation at war with them without warning. They did not have to render assistance or broadcast the location of survivors. The could sink neutral ships if they were in convoy with enemy ships of under the protection of that nations warships.

They couldn't sink hospital ships that displayed signage and were lit in accordance to the regulations laid down by the Geneva convention.

The skipper of a Japanese sub that sank an Australian Hospital ship was hung at the end of WWII.

came across hospital ship, troop transport and destroyer escort on last patrol.Flag check showed American ships. Since this was june '41, I did not shoot but surfaced to see any reaction. After five minutes, there was no visible response. (though I bet the warship was a t battle stations). I turned away and resumed patrol at PD.Sometimes the AI in SH3 is more satisfying than a one shot kill.
