New Viic/42 Skin: "Trusty Rusty"

Here is my attempt to join the "rust-skin" club... Some people have made some ecxellent rust-skins, so here is my contribution.. I just have some small issues to fix on this, then i will post it on filefront and ubrs!:yep:

First, some artwork of the skin....

Seen from the side of the conning (notice the algea-growth on the keel, from the time this boat was a stationary AA-site..)

I think this skin is better that the "zebra-camo-psycedelic-one" i created...

Wow, much better than the Lucy in the sky-sub! It actually looks like its about to fall apart.

No way I would dare to crash dive in that! (But I`m getting it, Seth! Would fit nicely in a Bernard vid)

Edit: No link?

Sorry for DB...

Here is the link: http://files.filefront.com/VIIC_Trus.../fileinfo.html

The file is in .rar format, just unrar and place the folder VIIC Trusty rusty in your mods folder. Then enable with JSGME.

This should work on all versions af SHIII. Enjoy!
Please feel free to modify this skin, but dont try making money on it. If you do so, please pay half of your earnings to WWW.Subsim.com.

Wow what a neglected old piece of crap.

Looks like if a U-boat was lost in the ocean for 60 years and finally found its way out.

Very cool. Somehow though I don't think that Kpt. Lehmann will like it (he has a major thing about rust).:stare:

I think I need a tetanus shot just looking at it! Actually, it kind of looks like it was raised off the sea floor after sitting there for 60 years. Think you could make a U-534 version?

Bernard finally gets his own uboat.

Yeah ive gotten hints of that. From what i've read uboats generally had to get repainted and such after every patrol because after being on patrol the boat got weather beaten pretty badly. A few rust streaks, paint chipped/flaked off, algea on the deck planks, etc. So i'd have to disagree with his, "there was no rust!" sentiment. :rotfl:

No farting please fragile U-Boat.

Looks good Seth.

Well that's the point, U-boats were repainted in port. I have to agree with Kpt. Lehmann on the rust issue. Sure the boats recieved weathering while on patrol, maybe even picked up small bits of rust. Much algae wouldn't have had a chance to grow, as the U-boat would of course have been moving for the patrol. You usually see algae on the keels of museum ships that are permanently docked.

All in all it's more realistic to have cleaner uboats than rusty ones. The majority of old photos show this (especially the colour pictures, as you can see that the weathering is not rust), some have a bit of weathering but very few are rust buckets. The ones which appear as such are usually surrendered U-boats that have undergone a depth charge ordeal. Yes, I know this is only meant to be a fun skin.

This is contrary to an old Navy saying : " Anything that moves, you give a salute, anything that doesn't move, you repaint...";)

Rust!!!!

perfect to add some extra pain when keelhauling someone...lets say...Bernard perhaps:rotfl:

Nice one, Seth. Only thing I dislike about it, is the green bottom. ;)

SubConscious 11-23-06 09:25 AM

Good job! At first I wasn't thrilled with the green bottom, but it took me back to my fishing days in Michigan. That is exactly the color I remember being on the bottom of the boats when they pulled them out of the water for the winter.

Congrats on a fine skin! I'm looking forward to seeing your next effort!
