Playing Dead or Not
Ahoy Shipmates, I was wondering how many players actually restart thier careers when they are killed during gameplay. I for one dont, i go back to my previous save and then change my plans and hopefully survive whatever encounter i recently died in.
Having only been playing Sh3 for about a month ive also been trying different supermods, such as Uboat War Ace, NYGM, and GW. Once I become a bit more confident and am satisfied with my mods status (ie: i have everything I need) then I will play a normal career. PS. I now only have the GW supermod installed, any recommends for any great mods to add to this setup, im all ears  |
I do play dead is dead if I have a 'heroic' death, otherwise I reload the game
You can add almost any graphical mod with GW. I usually add sub skins (Fubar's ones are the best, although there are other like Danlisa's that are very good), boat reflections, moon reflections, multiple ship skins and Home Fleet skins for the Royal Navy ships. They're all for visual effect but they make the game look even better |

Yes, its all about personal taste. Just keep an eye on the mods forum, good stuff is popping up almost every week.
I recommend Venatores torpedoes, skins by fubar(all subs), graf(Type VII) and danlisa (IX). You could also check out anzakmicks damage textures. ... and tons more if you wish. Some people have literally hundreds of mods in their mod folder. And get sh3commander and the mod enabler, essential sh3 tools indeed. Edit: Just use the search option with these names and you`ll find the release threads. I used to play Dead is Dead, and that is why I have never seen 1945 in campaign. No, I`m not kidding, I`ve never seen 45. With GWX Dead is Dead went out the window for me, but its no loss, if you catch my drift. |
Once the testing is over, my goal is to do a complete career on a 'dead is dead' situation no matter [might even do the training course which I've never done].

I didnt when I first got SH3, I started a career I sat 1 hour in the harbour and didnt move...I was like ''How the (bleep) does this works!!!'' Mmm....I quit and saw Naval school...and so I followed it...and managed to find out how it all worked hehe. |
Well, I play DiD.
Only one boat, the U-77 a VIIc in the 7´th Flotilla, has made it all the way. That was in my modded vanilla installment. U-1202 a VIIc/41 in the 11´th Flotilla made it from Jan 1 -45 to the end off the war in TGW, badly damaged 3 times. |
I play DiD as I think it forces me to use more realistic tactics... If I know I can just reload the save, guess I would not care so much about trying to stay on the safe side. I do it as well with all simulation games with dynamic careers (IL2/PF for instance) for the same purpose : when you know you can "die" you think twice before getting into a furball. Forces me to dig into knowledge of comparative performance.
But I have always been a hardcore simmer, I can understand other look for more "fun" experience. (When I need some fun, I play Dawn of War...;)) Important thing is that each one finds what he is looking for, in his playstyle, the use of mods or not, etc... P.S. : I start every career from Sept 1939 and didn't see 1945 either, but am getting closer... |

@ Corsair .. the very reasons you have just given are why I want to complete a Career without any resurrections ! |
Dead is dead for me and as a result I have started more careers than I care to remember. In any case whatever takes your fancy I guess. For me though, perhaps I enjoy the hair pulling frustration of having to begin from scratch. :damn:
|
i play DiD in a modified manner... if i die after some intense DCing then fine but if it's because my crew doesn't spot a destroyer on a clear night in time compression i am reloading that ****.
|
I play DiD now. I'm more cautious and to not take many risks. Oddly enough my tonnage is the same...."be more aggressive" yeah thanks BDU, it is 1943 and destroyers find you like blood hound:o
|
tried to play like this too but.........I dont know, I refuse to accept deaths that wont happen to me in real life. This includes all deaths that have something to do with the time compression. ;-)

"TC deaths". That's a good way to put it. I agree, dying from hitting an invisible pier while at high time compression is a good reason to ignore it. Other than that sort of thing, if they get me, I'm dead; or at least that career is.
