ENIGMA Crack the code (Movie)

Movie about the code crackers during ww2 in Britain,
sometime during the war after they cracked the code the
germans changed the code thus having the coders to crack
it all over again. So the story is about (true or false?)
about the biggest uboat wolvepacks sent out to grid
BE1459 or (it might of been DE1459),to intercept 2 large
US convoys with 40 to 60 ships each heading to england.
Does anyone know if this really happened meaning Donizt
sent out his largest round up of uboats to attack this
convoy or was it just all made up for the movie?

Some pictures below i took of the Uboats but dont rush
out and get this movie if you want tons of uboat action
theres only about 20min of it in the whole movie the rest
is over a love relationship :damn: between one coder and his british
spy girlfriend! with a disgrunted polish coder seeking revenge on the Russians whom (true) murdered a few thousand polish troops which the germans dug up and used for propaganda. Okay movie but not a Das Boot classic.

This snap shot was a fluke! just when i snapped it my dvd slowed down and skipped a millisecond or so resulting in both frames taken as one. The goggles shot was the first frame & the convoy was the second, it seem to capture both simutanously.

One last question and a silly one. Are there uboats or US ww2 subs still active? cause those boats used in the movie look real im sure its not some trick photography they are real boats:hmm: . Man if i only had a spare million lying around i would buy a ww2 sub and live in it! :arrgh!: :rotfl:

The Enigma movie used a 1/5-scale model U-boat. It is now on display at Bletchley Park. I saw it there last year when I was in UK for the International Fleet Review and Trafalgar 200 celebrations.

Enigma was based on a great book by Robert Harris - though the book spends less time on subs than talking about them, it's still a great read. Harriss's earlier book - Fatherland was also a great story, set about 20 years after Germany won WWII.

There are a couple that have been preserved as monuments. U.S.S Drum is one (I think?), and there are others scattered around

Don't forget the Cavalla!
:gulp:

Indeed there are. The Taiwanese Navy operates two GUPPY II converted Tench class submarines:

ROCS Hai Shih (ex-USS Cutlass SS-478, sold 12/4/1973)
ROCS Hai Bao (ex-USS Tusk SS-426, sold 10/18/1973)

I'd have guessed now that this is our famous good old friend U96, which has been seen in the first Indiana Jones-Movie too. ;)
