Help with AoD on XP
Hi everyone, anyways I know all about DosBox, unfortunately I am computer illiterate and its far to complicated to get it going without help. However, the only reason I am perturbed enough to post for help is that I already got the game running, played for like 8 hours straight the other day, wonderful; but now it won't work. I have XP, changed the compatibility of the files so that they ran in WIN 95 mode in 256 colours and it was wonderful; now everytime I try to load a mission I get a not enough memory error. If I could get it to work the first time and play for 8 hours, why the heck won't it work now?>?>?>?>? I could understand if it never worked, but why the heck did it work once and not again, ARGH!!!! :damn:

AoD 1.2 with exp. pack + Dosbox 0.63
It seems that the greatest problem is installing the game - maybe it is easier for You to download a pre-installed, patched version which works with Dosbox 0.63 (runs a bit slow but otherwise OK). I uploaded one to an abandonware webpage: [LINK REMOVED.PLEASE NO ABANDONWARE OR FULLGAMES HERE!!! (HITMAN-MODERATOR)] This version worked fine for several configs/settings, I hope it will work for You, too. (Jolaes) Or Run it in a DOS mode on xp and use a "CPU killer" utility to slow down the game The Windows 32-bit protected-mode cache driver (Vcache) determines the maximum cache size based on the amount of RAM that is present when Windows starts. From 0xC0000000 to 0xFFFFFFFF (from 3 to 4 gigabyte). THEN .....out of Memory Error Messages with Large Amounts of RAM Installed ....slow down the game and set the XMS and EMS memory to 4096 each. How? 1.Open the System.ini file in a text editor, such as Notepad. 2.Go to the [VCache] section. 3.Change the MinFileCache= and the MaxFileCache= settings to the desired value. [VCache] MinFileCache=51200 MaxFileCache=56320 Dear, your problem it's System.ini, i don't know why, It depends.... |
this is what my system.ini looks like
; for 16-bit app support [drivers] wave=mmdrv.dll timer=timer.drv [mci] [driver32] [386enh] woafont=dosapp.FON EGA80WOA.FON=EGA80WOA.FON EGA40WOA.FON=EGA40WOA.FON CGA80WOA.FON=CGA80WOA.FON CGA40WOA.FON=CGA40WOA.FON that's it. If someone could type in the exact things to do in dosbox so that I can repeat verbatim to get this game to work it would be greatly appreciated. I am nearly computer illterate so if someone could kindly recreate the exact things to be typed I can follow exactly. |
