Is this realistic?
One funny thing about damage in the vanilla version of SHIII is that if your conning tower is destroyed, you can still use your UZO. This is kind of a relief, because it means even if you are beat up badly you can still get firing solutions on your target. However, I have no freaking idea how the UZO can be some indestructible piece of equipment, but the periscope can't.

IIRC the Uzo was kept inside the sub and bought up for attacks
UZO U-Boot-Ziel-Optik The U-boat target optic (aiming binoculars). |
True. You can see it in Das Boot when the captain calls for the targeting binoculars, i.e. the UZO.
Though if the conning tower was destroyed, you'd think the UZO housing would be destroyed as well. |
Well, realistically, if your conning tower was destroyed I think that would mean the end of your boat too.
Its one of the many flaws in the game. Fortunatly some great modders have addressed many of the issues with the stock game. When you feel ready try out one or all of the supermods. Youll be in for a pleasant surprise. |
I was gonna say something else but I lost me train o thought.....

My grandfather is the toughest SoB you'll ever meet. Between being a Commando to a Tank COmmander to boxing to living through the depression... and even he can't drink scotch. Gives him terrible headaches.
Now Cognac, that's a really fine drink. |
