A small price, a big difference

Two weeks ago I decided 1 Gb of Ram jsut wasn't enough. So spending approx £100 or $180 I bought an extra 1 Gb and....

WOW !!:o

the framerates at the ports were high and there was no j.u.d.d.e.r.i.n.g. Usually at port my PC stuggled with the amounts of info thrown at it with the GW mod. The extra Ram is almost like have a new system

I seriously recommend if you can afford to blow $180 get yourself 2 Gb Ram (you know you want to !!)

D'oh, I'm playing with 512 MB RAM and can't wait to get my christmas salary to get another 512 MB RAM

BTW, you should call yourself Engländer or Englaender, for perfect German! Just a note! :know:

Like I posted somewhere before.

My modded SH3 with GW needs 900-1GB of RAM (that is DDR2 RAM) to work without a glitch!

Where can i get RAM cheap? I currently have 1,5 gb, and i think i should have 1 gig more (DDR).

Achtung Englander 10-31-06 07:33 AM

being in Norway I really don't know but here in the UK I get all my hardware from 3 sites

http://www.dabs.com/

http://www.planetmicro.co.uk/

http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products

Kaleun_Saxi - thanks for the prompt - I really wanted to get the tongue in cheek Englishism for German words like "Achtung Spitfeur !"

Kaleun_Saxi 10-31-06 07:34 AM

I'm gonna buy it on Ebay. Here in Germany there are several retailers where you can buy RAM, the price is about 70-100 Euro per GB, depending on the type of RAM you need. I'm gonna grab myself 512 MB, that should help me playing SH3 unmodded.

I see. Achtung Spitfeuer would be more accurate, but we are tongue-in-cheek.
I'm thinking about other typical English words that we Germans misuse. Like saying "handy" to a mobile phone. For me this is a quite interesting subject, I like reading which German words are actually used in other languages. Time for Blitzkrieg. Kindergarten. Bratwurst. Brathering....

I upgrade my mem from...

I upgraded my mems from 256MB to 512MB, i can put 2GB max, but dont ask the price...

I have a P4 with Rambus memories...
Now i have 2x265 with NON ECC and 2x ECC..
Some mainboards like what i have can combine 2 difference rams.. as long you put the same rams together....

but putting 2x1GB uhmmm lot's of $$$$ and for that money i can buy a new system...
So i wait when Vista comes out.. than i build a custom computer...

mookiemookie 10-31-06 09:49 AM

I wish you hadn't said this. Now I'm considering upgrading from 1 gig to 2 and trying to come up with ways to fund it. :damn: Damn my suggestability! hee hee hee...

Dowly 10-31-06 10:39 AM

Is the prices that high again!? They keep changing all the time! Last time I bought 1GB of ram it was ~70€. A year ago or so.

Be very careful buying RAM on Ebay. There's a lot of unbranded stuff on there which is causing grief. You may be OK if you buy a 512MB stick. Avoid most 1GB sticks on Ebay as they're 128x4 instead of 64x8. Very few chipsets support 128x4 and their stability is questionable.

Kaleun_Saxi 11-02-06 02:47 AM

Thanks for the info. I would usally by exactly the same stick as I have already installed. I've got one from Infineon, so I'm gonna buy another one with the same CL rate and MHz.

For what it's worth; I buy all my computer supplies at http://www.newegg.com/

Good prices, very trustworthy and very fast shipment.
